396 programming question

Hey Guys,
Ordered my 396 and per UPS it'll be here Wed. Now, I've read a bit and I have to tell you all programming has me a bit spooked. So is it that bad or is it sort of like programming my 296? I'll be using both the ARC software and the Uniden software that comes with it.

use the Arc software, trust me its a whole diffrent ball game to program

Do some manually so that you're not so "dependent" on software.

Yes, s/w makes it easier, but if you're out and away from the software . . . it'll come in handy knowing how to navigate the menus and controls manually.
