396 to 996

I just purchased a 996 and already own a 396, which of course I have already programmed. Does anyone know if I can clone the 396 to the 996, and if so, what equipment, cable, etc. would I need? Appreciate any help received.

You cannot directly clone, as the 996 has significant feature advancements from the 396. However, if you read out the 396 using UASD, you can write those same system files to the 996 using UASD for the 996.

the 396 has less stuff on it and th 996 has more stuff on it. I wish it did clone that would be cool instead having 2 different softwares.

But at least the two UASD programs are free downloads. The only thing you really need to tweak, once you copy the *.usd files from the 996 database over to the 396 ( or vice-versa, if you had the 396 first) is the config file for the new radio. Then load & go.
