396-XT What Problems have you had ??

My 396-Xt has headed to Repair AGAIN !

Twice my unit has lost All Reception , I have to be within a quarter mile of a strong signal to get anything
last time Uniden had to replace to resisitors ,diodes something cant remeber.



SO Whats gone wrong with your's ????

Wow, I'm having second thoughts now.... :roll:
Maybe I should stick with my pro-106.

It's Actually a very good scanner ! Mine might just be a fluke , I,m hoping they Replace it with a new unit.

What you are describing sounds like it might be getting too much signal. I had that happen to me a few times. I just took the antenna off while during when it happened. It worked fine after that for the very strong signal I wanted to listen to. I got 5 bars with no antenna...

I Appreciate the help, but it's basically not receiving at all it was off after that for a day and still does not receive at all. sent it to Repair.

I had the same issue mine was just decreased reception all of a sudden, sent it in they Replaced Q2 & Q3 transistors . Works great now....the process was not the best , but they did repair it and now im back to the way it was out of the box when it was new. the repair price wasnt bad either..

Same problem, sent it back to the seller. Replacement works perfectly but keypad color wearing off probably because of a lot of pocket carry. Great scanner.

I could not remember what the return rma sheet said, what you said is Exactly what happened to me the 1st time and now Again !

Any Idea what causes it to happen ?

i've had mine 6 mos. no problems at all. works great. i put a long diamond antenna on it and works killer!
i agree w/other reply, could just be a fluke. send it back and ask for the mercy of uniden to send you a replacement. they just might

Not a single issue in over 2 years of perpetual use. Great product.

I've had mine since they originally came out, it has worked flawlessly since I've had it, A great little radio, although it does have an extremely long learning curve to understand it all. I have a buddy who has twice now had to send it back to Uniden, after losing all reception, perhaps from being in very close proximity to a high powered transmitter.

Im using a 346XT, this radio has exceeded my expectations. I stay with Uniden when it comes to scanners. One year and no problems. BCT15X is going in the car asap. No digital in my area except State Police and they are boring in my area.

Love mine... Got it when they first came out and use it every day with no issues... Any chance you have it real close to a transmitter in your area? I have a few ham radio friends that were using Radio Shack Pro-96 hand held scanners and transmitting on 2m from the car. They had a scanner antenna as well as a 2 meter antenna mounted on top of the car and because they were so close together they blew out the front end of the scanner and had to send them in for service to get the receive back again. The mobil scanners seem to have build in protection for front end overload but the hand helds not so much.
