5547 is the CEP2 frequency for transit through Hawaii, then down through Nadi to Christchurch NZ on 5643 and 8867kHz. It's the peak summer time for replenishment at the US base McMurdo on Antarctica now, so we get plenty of 'Reaches' passing through. Before they got the newer 'Globemaster's' they had to transit through American Samoa with the old National Science Foundation Hercules but now they can do it in one hop.

Happy New Year to all and good DXing.

Any idea what wing these 'reaches' were from? I'm partial to the C5 Galaxy myself, but there are a few ac types with the 'reach' callsign. Nice catch!

RCH414T 02-1106 C-17A Globemaster III 62nd AW McChord
RCH412T 05-5149 C-17A Globemaster III 535AS Hickam

One of the flights advised he was Hickam to Andrews, so most likely related to Obama's return to Washington.
I was actually monitoring hoping to catch AF1 but I was too late. On the subject does anyone know if AF1 does routine position reports or are they CPDLC for the crossings?

Anyone know what these guys would use on the east coast, and on the way to europe? I hear them do radio checks occasionally on 11175, but thats about all they do/say.

My guess is that they would use NY, Gander and Santa Maria as they head towards Europe on their transoceanic flight from the east coast.
