That one site sure would not be enough to cover the entire city of Dallas, either from a pure coverage range standpoint, or number of frequencies available for talkgroups. So, if they plan on growing it into a city wide system, then that would make more sense if it's only one site among several. In north Bedford, on a 396XT, I'm getting 2-5 bars/of 5 on the signal meter when I hold on it.
I was talking to someone who told me that this is the first of what Dallas hopes to be a multi site system down the road for PD, FD, etc., and it's not the overlay thing(if I understood him correctly). He also thinks it will be used quite a bit for the Super Bowl.
There sure are a lot of new things to keep up with these days. I wish I would have bought more P25 capable scanners recently than I did.

snip. Here are the freqs for the other 700 MHz overlay sites.
These are from CAPRAD online coordination database.
Using the Dallas site as an example, how are they going to cram a huge city full of police and fire transmissions into four or five frequencies?
