Here is my question about my 780...I have two of these scanners and have the same problem with both units. It only seems to be a problem with one frequency 156.1275. This is the output freq for a repeated system. The problem is when there is a transmission the scanner will stop on the channel for less than 1 second and then continue scanning without coming back to the channel even though there is an ongoing radio transmission. If you manually hold the channel then I hear the entire transmission loud and clear. This is the radio channel for my local PD so signal strength is not the issue. Any idea why this happens? It does happen occasionally with a few other frequencies but it always happens with this one. Does the scanner just not like this frequency? On a side note the volume on that channel is much lower than other channels.

One possibility is that your "data skip" is on. If a transmission has data along with voice the scanner will shut it off. Turn the "data skip" off and try it.

I've tried that and it didn't help. I'm thinking about upgrading to a 246 or 396 but its so much $.

How about the squelch mode...would the setting make a difference, CSQ, tone squelch, tone search? It was on tone squelch...
The data skip is off the ATT is off, any other settings to check?

I use the BC396T now and havn't used the 780 in quite a while. If your local PD uses a PL tone for that frequency you could try programming it. I don't remember if the 780 allows you to program a "delay" for each channel or if it is global. If you can program a delay for each channel make sure it is not set to a negative number. You also said the audio is low so make sure the mode is correctly set(i.e. FM,WFM). I'll try finding my 780 manual as I don't have it nearby to see if I can figure out anything else. Good Luck.

Thanks for the ideas, I've tried all of them in the past with no better results. Very strange how the problem exists on both of my scanners.

try the knob

Hi,

More specifically, check the squelch mode, this scanner has time operated squelch.
goto the PD channel in manual mode and Try: | Menu| Channel Data | keep it on the PD channel and then | Delay | check to make sure "1 second" is NOT set. If it is, just change it to none.

let us know how it turns out.

mike

Edit - like the guy said earlier - I just checked the manual and make sure the delay is not negative. FYI- Delay is per channel.

Thanks everyone for the help. Changing the delay to "None" seems to have solved the problem. Somehow it got set to the "-2 Second" setting. Socalmike, why did you say to have the delay set to none instead of 1 second? I figured having it set to a 1 or 2 second delay would help not missing a transmission. Anyway it seems to work for now thanks. I still experience low volume with this one channel, I believe its just due to the dispatchers not speaking directly into the mike, now I'm looking into buying a 396, would the AGC volume control help make this one channel louder without boosting the other channels volums to be too loud?

Great !!

Hi Jason,

I figured that "none" would ensure that the setting was changed. Electronics sometimes dont behave correctly. Now that we know what the problem was, try adding a positive delay. It shouldnt make a difference because you are listening to a repeater.

I still experience low volume with this one channel

You could set the channel with low volumne to NFM rather than
FM,and you should notice an increase in volumne for just that channel. It's been a few years since I've owned a 780XLt but I believe you can set that per channel.
