I live in Decatur, which is NW of Dallas and I was wondering what this frequency was. I can't seem to find it on the RR database but I know it involves Police/Fire or something in that subject.

Are you using a GRE PSR 500/600 (or the RS Pro 106/197)? If so it could be a well known, well documented, image problem.

See here and here for some discussions from the Texas forum.

Hmmm... the Pro-163 is a GRE produced scanner, though it's a generation older than the 500/600/106/197.

When I experienced the problem on my 500, I was receiving an analog EDACS system from the 850MHz band. If you have a local EDACS system, this might be the culprit. I'd bet the problem still persists in this older scanner.

Based on the frequency "spread" in the first related thread you linked (this one), 796.8875 possibly could be an image reception from 855.8875, which is a voice channel from the Denton (city) trunked system.

nukeboy, since you're in Wise County, that system could possibly be the source. You might try programming that frequency (855.8875), or some of the other voice frequencies, in directly & see if they sound like whoever you're hearing on 796.8875.
