• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Some are radios only (just the drawer, no cables, heads nada) some are radios with front mount heads, some are remote mount with accessories (cables, head, power plug) but no significant features, while the most expensive are well-featured, and come with a system head and extended options cables.

As you can tell, there is a LARGE variety of stuff to look at besides the model number. I would highly recommend calling them up and telling them what you are after, they are very informative and helpful people and will set you down the right path.

Don't forget that you will have to get the radio programmed to work on what frequencies your trying to
pull in. As always, if your looking to receive a trunking system, best that you work through the radio
system manager for that system.

Thanks for the input.

I have already talked to the head of out communication department and he said he will take care of reprogramming the unit.

I want to make sure the unit I purchase will work on our EDACS system. I currently have a P5100 with options 01, 04, 07, 08, 09, 10, 23, and 30. Will a Jaguar 725 with options 01, 03, 04, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 16, 21, and 22 work on our system? I am not sure what the option codes mean.

Thanks

Well from those features, you arent using any kind of digital voice, so anything from a MDX or an Orion or the 725M will work in your situation. The latter two being the more popular and easy to come by. Check the sticky in this forum to see what all those feature codes mean, the first 1-10 are 'the basics' for just about every M/A Com radio, thats conventional scan, group scan etc etc, pretty much means your radio is running all the basics, 23 being narrowband and 30 means it is 'feature limited' which is what a P5100 is, a stripped-down P7100.

So if the 725 doesn't have feature code for Narrow Band will that be an issue? I'm not sure what Narrow Band is.
