Just received my Kaito KA1102 radio yesterday and have been up all night putting it through its paces. It's a great little radio for a beginner, or for someone getting back into the hobby (like me) after about 15 years.

Anyway, as I was tuning up the spectrum, I came across a signal at 8242 Khz. It was in sideband, so it took me a second to get my radio on the right "page" to receive SSB, so I didn't catch all of the transmission, but what I heard was quite odd.

A deep male voice was telling the congregation they may be seated, and to open their minds to 'nature psalm' ?? (signal faded at that point and I didn't catch the number). Then he said a prayer filled with references to nature. After that, I lost the signal altogether.

Has anyone else heard this on this freq., or something similar to it? Any idea what it could have been? I stayed on frequency for about 10 to 15 minutes but either I couldn't receive the signal or it stopped transmitting.

Thoughts / comments anyone?

oh there are all KINDS of whacky religious programs all over the dial,... this is so common.. In fact I find them annoying because there are so many, I have to weed through them.. It's annoying to try an tune through the bands, and hit on one of these,.. Then you gotta listen for the key words ("god, christ, jesus, lord,"), and then you can move on...

The messed up part is that these stations come in booming loud and clear,...

Broadcasters should not be appearing in the 8 mhz marine ptp band - likely this was a spur caused by overloading or imaging. It could also be a spur at the transmitter site - the DXLD Yahoo group has noted some religious broadcasters with these problems in the past. They are not as careful of tranmitter maintenance as they should be, frankly. Some of them are running far too much speech processing. 73s Mike
