I left all the original systems in my 396 when I got it and started adding my local systems. No particular reason for doing that...just figured I'd add mine and save the original stuff. Anyway...as I hit 90% full on memory...it quit accepting new frequencies or trunk channels. I deleted one of the original "states" and then tried to add the system that failed, worked this time. I tried adding another...same issue. This was either via hand entry or using ARC396PRO same result. Both the software and radio itself showed memory at 90%. There were no locked frequencies, channels or search groups.

Does Uniden "save" 10% of the memory for its use? This isn't a problem, I certainly don't need all those original systems and have already saved them off if I ever did need them. Just curious if I'm hitting a system limit set by Uniden or something goofy with my radio itself.

Thanks!
Don

I think you are limited to 6144 conventional frequencies+system frequencies+talkgroups. I've hit that with the 396's memory percentage showing much less than 90% used.

A certain percentage of the scanner's memory must be set aside for the firmware, other internal operating software, and user interface programming..

That would not be represented as part of the memory shown available to the user. It has to do with the numeric limitations I described above.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks!

In addition to frequencies and talkgroups, there are other things stored in the radio's memory. These things can be custom searches, tone-outs, weather alerting things, etc. So there is a remote possibility that you have a lot of these gobbling up memory.

My problems, however, have been just like the others. I've tried to cram more channels that it will take and get something like a Resource Error.
