If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm trying to figure out where i could mount a scanner in my Camaro. I know, there's not much room to work with, but I've seen people put more in less space. I already have a CB above the dash far enough back that it's not going anywhere anytime soon unless a tornado picks my car up and tears it to pieces. I don't know where to mount a scanner though. I'm also looking for somewhere to put the same in my truck but that issue is already on the board. So any advice would be greatly appreciated. My next question would be where to put the antenna since my roof is fiberglass (grrr I hate it). CB antenna is on the side right up against the trunk but that's just till i can figure out something better.

well for the antenna you can get a trunk lip mount... they are easy to install and it sounds easy on your camaro. As for the scanner, why not get a portable so like the 396t and just put a mic clip for a cb mic in your car and mount it that way.. that is what i have done atleast and it works great and takes very little room up.

Trunk lip mounts don't work. First there is no lip on the trunk to clamp it to and both the hood and trunk not made of metal so you have no ground. You can use an L-bracket on the rear across from the good time radio antenna and get decent performance. This is what I had on the 99 Camaro

The other option is the better than nothing (but not much) thru-glass.

I see what you're saying with how you rigged your antenna. where and how did you mount the radio and/or scanner inside your camaro? I know the interior is similar so i'm definitely up for pointers on that.

On the passenger side of console is where it finally ended up. I tried under the glove box, under the steering wheel and just about everywhere there was a flat enough space to screw it to. The console wasn't the best looking but it was the best for access (for power, antenna cable, and to reach the controls) and it was out of the potential impact zone of my knees.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have a fairly good idea of where I'm gonna put the scanner now. I'll probably get one of the remote heads for whatever ham i get and have the main radio in that little cubbyhole by the hatchback and then have i can put the remote panel just about anywhere i want.

btw I will make sure and post pics of whatever i come up with. It will be very interesting especially since i'll have at least a scanner and a ham and possibly another ham dedicated to skywarn.

Similiar problem 95 Interpid

I had 95 Interpid similar problem. Where to put the scanner in a car that's not scanner
friendly. It had a full console with transmission shifter, the only spot that was out of
air bags path was the glove box area.
Used an old radio bracket, a couple barn door hinges, L brackets had around and
the existing holes and screws from the glovebox door.

Very good mount on the intrepid. Like how you mounted the XM radio. Gives me a couple of ideas on how to mount when I put one in my vehicle.

I like that. Now that i have a fairly good idea of how I'm going to mount everything in my car, what types of radios would you recommend? I'm looking for a 2 meter ham and hopefully a digital scanner. Detachable faceplate on the Ham would be nice but not absolutely necessary. Do need digital on the scanner though. I can make do with handhelds but i would like something to mount in eventually.

Only 2 meter I've had is a Realistic HTX-242, it's still working 11years later. Unfortunity
its out of production. As for a scanner, I've been using uniden scanners good radios.
I've programed a Pro-96 for a friend, it also seems like nice radio. From your
description of the limited space in you car perhaps a handheld scanner is the way to go.
