Although it’s a simple process to install new firmware/software, there’s also the old adage “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”. If the scanner is working to your liking, updating is probably not going to be a priority anyway. So, as long as somebody hasn’t told you or you aren’t suspicious this may be happening, the scanner is missing comms due to system changes, the updates can wait. That being said, if you don’t get much feedback from others, and start suspecting missed comms, updates may have been made that do affect your programming. Personally between the scanners and ham radio gear I own, I try to update all, mostly due to the fact that I’ve got a lot of time on my hands with very little priority items waiting in the wings.
