Hello everyone,
I hope I am not asking something that has been posted before so here it goes, I read through the manual but I didn't see anything about this but I was wandering if it is possible to use the serial port on the back of the 996T to hook it up to the computer?
I know it is used for wired cloning and the using the GPS feature but. It would be nice to have a nice clean look without a cable sticking out of the face!
Just thought I would ask.

I know what you mean with the cable out the front. I ran it under the scanner.

Yes, you can use the rear port. Use a null modem adapter (or null modem cable) and be sure to set the rear port's speed to match the software you are using (default on the rear port is 4800 bps so that it is compatible with GPS data).

Cool deal!!!
As of right now I do have it tucked under the unit but it would be so much cleaner looking to have it connected in the back.
Again thanks for all your help!

Yes you do!
Make sure when you get the unit to check in every crevice! There are 2 inner packages within the main box. The cable is within the larger inner package tucked behind one of the folded pieces of cardboard.
I know this because I got mine the other day and I tore open the box right outside the radio shop ( I couldn't wait). I ran back inside to ask the guy behind the counter and her quickly checked out the display model and he showed me where it was hiding.
Best of luck and enjoy.
