I am using the ARC-XT Pro software to load my frequencies into my Uniden 996XT.
The front port does not work ... so I am using the rear port ...
I have used my cable in the past on other computers.

My problem is when I go to the "Scanner" heading at the top of the software ...
Then scroll down to the "Communication Setup" prompt
None of the ports are highlighted to select ... so I choose the "AutoDetect Scanner" option.
My Baudrate is set at 115200 (I have also tried the 57600 option) on both the scanner and the computer software.
Error Message: "Software has not detected your scanner, please check scanner is switched ON and connected."
(Read instructions how to setup scanner communication)

I am looking for suggestions .... or assistance on how to clear the Universal Serial Bus controllers

Did you set up the ports on the scanner?

If memory serves - someone is sure to correct me (heh) - if you use the rear port for programming, you have to use a null modem adapter. However you should try to figure out why the front port isn't working - that is the only way to load any firmware fixes. The rear port won't work for this purpose...Mike

The default baudrate is 9200. Open device manager look for devices. Especially usb devices and make sure it doesn't has an exclamation mark beside it. Updating drivers usually fixes devices not found

9200 is not a valid baud rate. 9600 is. I just checked using ARC-XT with my 996. You must use a null modem cable using the rear port. Are you using a USB to serial adapter. If you are, you may need to install a driver for it. Go to Device Manager. Open Ports (COM & LPT). Right click on USB to Serial Comm Port. Click on update driver. Try doing everything with the front port. You will need that for firmware updates. If you are using the Uniden USB-1 cable, you will need to download and install the driver for that.

I meant 9600. It look like you fixed your problem? Did updating the driver fix it. With my 396xt I do use usb to serial port. I use Gigaware it works like a charm

Every now and then some software will capture a com port on the computer. ARC XT will attempt to use that com port to no avail. I've found that re-booting my computer releases all those "captures" so I can re-attempt connection using the Auto Detect feature with success.

Thanks for the info .... the update driver said the best driver is already installed.

I believe the Front Port does not work ... not sure if its damaged ...
Where can I send it to get fixed?
Currently, I'm in BC Canada but will be heading for California in the next few weeks for the Winter.

Lastly ... you mentioned Gigaware .... I've never heard of it.
Is it like the ARC-XT Pro software?

It's the usb to serial port cable company name. Its labeled Gigaware on the cable. My best bet would try installing an new port. If its difficult to change. You'll have to send to it to Uniden Repair for flat fee of $89.00 USD. They have a 20 to 25 day turn around
