Training/qualification level of the crew

Medic crews may be made up of a EMT-Paramedic and either an EMT-Basic or (more likely these days) an EMT-Intermediate

Paramedic crews are made up of two full EMT-Paramedics

This is why you sometimes hear a Medic unit and a 2nd Medic unit or even a Paramedic unit sent on the same dispatch -- some limited number of situations require 2 full EMT-Paramedics ...
