The officers are calling it "radio upgrades."

Last week I heard a broadcast advising officers who use certain channels (I thought they said "OPS channels") to come to Hqts at some point and have their radios "rekeyed"... I assumed at the time that the encryption key used for Special Ops channels that are already encrypted were going through a annual encryption key update.... then again, this may have had nothing to do with the issue you are describing... guess I'll listen and see if I notice anything.... back later..

Yeah, I heard that also, not sure if it is related to this or not. I haven't heard anything about radio updates this shift 3-11.

They did a special broadcast telling officers to come in today for radio reprogramming.

Officers keep saying that they are going to get new radios.

The new channel assignments and/or encryption will not be hard to determine if someone in range can run Universal Trunker.

Seems that they are using the same talkgroups but have simply added DES. At least that's what I'm able to see with Trunker. The AACo PD AUX TGIDs appear the same as they were before the switch when viewed on Trunker, but can show up 8 bits higher on Uniden scanners, depending on your status bit setting.

One other tidbit: It looks as though Annapolis PD has also added DES on their OPS channel, TGID 18128--at least I heard encryption earlier today.

Yeah I ran trunker and it is the same talkgroups just can't monitor it.

Interesting --- as of last night I'm still hearing some unencrypted traffic on at least Southern Aux and CID Aux. If they've switch to encrypted, I'm guessing everyone has not yet upgraded their radio--- will continue to monitor.

I noticed that with Southern Aux. I heard a couple Eastern officers saying they couldn't switch to the aux because they don't have their radios reprogrammed. It might be that they haven't starting upgrading in Southern District.

Overnight I heard a one-sided clear conversation on Northern Aux - sounded like a dispatcher talking to a post car... still trying to figure out what is happening. I have two radios running looking for new talkgroups. I always "use" status bit if I can and keep a wildcard in place looking for new activity but I still haven't noticed any of these new ENC TGs. Unfortunately these TGs are used infrequently so they can be hard to catch.

Whoa - While typing, TG 17880 just came up on my 396 as ENC (looks like the Southern AUX TG including 17872 "plus 8") -- ah-ha.

All of the "AUX" talkgroups are (or shortly will be) encrypted. Beginning of 3-11 shift today was last call at Southern for anyone who has not been re-programmed yet. Position"C" on the toggle used to be teletype, now it is for the new PG County system when it finally comes on line. Everything else is the same, but like I said a year and a half ago, they would eventually like to have the whole thing encrypted on the PD side. When that will actually happen is anyone's guess.
