Hello All.

Is there a better All-Band, right-angled antenna, just like the stock antenna that comes with the UNIDEN HomePatrol, that I can buy for this unit, in Southwestern Ontario? And does anyone know if Service Manuals are available for the HP-1, either a printed version or a PDF version?

Thanks Sheldon.

I was using a right angled metallic one from my old Pro2045 till it broke, it replaced the stock one which also broke.

MCuipa mentioned a Radio Shack antenna with a right angle, if he sees this post he might be able to point you in the right direction.

None of these will do much good though, its best to spend some $ for one.

I imagine you will find a manual at Unidens site but as I click on it my computer is timing out.

Not really impressed by Uniden customer service dept but I will post something in the right place, not here.

I use a SMA to BNC adapter - (the one that comes with the 396) and the telescoping antenna that came with my 996XT. I find there is a difference between the regular telescope antenna and the 996XT version... better built I guess as its the same height etc.

I temporarily lost my stock antenna in the snow (since found it though). I bought a Watson Tele-Gainer WSMA-889 and it works great for 800 MHz in the collapsed position and much better than stock for VHF/UHF with all or some of the segments extended. While I'd prefer another, better-performing, rubber duck antenna, the WSMA-889 works quite well for me.

Why not get a right angle adapter of the type you need and get a good wide band antenna to attach standing up on the adapter.

Update to my original question.

Hi All.

Is there anything from The Source that would be a suitable replacement for the HP-1 antenna?

Thanks Sheldon.

The only thing you will get at The Source is a blank stare from the kid behind the counter. Sure they would be more than happy to set you up with a new cell phone though haha.

Seriously though unless they happen to have something kicking around from the 'old' days, I doubt it.

You might want to try Durham Radio. I recently ordered from them via internet and was very pleased with the service. Canada post even delivered my order the next day after I ordered my parts. I believe their policy is if ordered before noon shipped that day.

The Watson WSMA889 is a telescoping with a swivel.

Also you might want to order the KS3SMA base antenna with a small magnetic mount. I put a Velcro pad on mine and can mount it on a window ledge. Great reception at my location.

They also have adapters SMA -BNC, etc. at reasonable prices. Just do a search for SMA adapters. Many will pop up.

Hope this helps.

Have you ever used one of the Diamond Antennas like this one, mentioned on this thread?

SRH789 [DIA-SRH789] - $45.00 : Radioworld

The one you mentioned and the Diamond are pretty much the same price.
I prefer Radio World myself.
For the original poster:

I would go with the KS3SMA, I used to have one of those and I am going to buy it for my 'scanner room.'
It costs less than the other ones listed, maybe 25-30 bucks, check the Durham site

You can also get it at Lakeshore Electronics, They are in the west end of the city.
the C/S guy there is a member of this site and is a nice guy. You can pm me if you want the name and #.

I like the KS3 too. Was a little weak with digital as a mag mount but I ended up putting it on a mount when I drilled a hole in the roof of the car. Performs well like that. Overall good value for money.

I am going to go pick one up today at Lakeshore and use it in my radio room.

I have a 3/4 wave for fleetnet mag mount for my car that works well on fleetnet and a home brew for my Pro2045 scanner running T88 and now the K3SMA (actually the BNC version and I will use my BNC TO SMA connector).

The price is lower than Durham and their is no $10 or more charge for shipping.

Hello EJB.

Did you get an antenna from Lakeshore yet for your HP-1? Did it improve anything?

Sheldon.

Absolutely. It is a good all band antenna good even for house use, I just mounted a piece of metal along my window and stuck it there. It is even easy enough to bring it to other rooms of my apartment. With this antenna I can get a dood deal more fleetnet towers such as Guelph Woodlawn (barely), Niagara Falls and Fonthill, Brantford and Cayuga along with Mowat and Brittania.

You can pick up two of them and use one on your car if you desire. For the price I paid $28 bucks incl tax its worth it.

I often buy antennas from commercial radio firms up in Sudbury. I get a decent vhf rubber duck ( yes they still make and sell BNC ) for alot cheaper than scanner type stores. Plus the rubber duck , I bought is tuned to a center freg for use to transmit , so these type of ducks if you will , ( hehe ) are reasonable in price. Just a another source to buy things like rubber ducks wit better gain etc.
