• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Sometime ago I bought a two-channel UHF maxtrac on Ebay for our wrecker business. I noticed the ot her day that the speaker isn't working. How can I wire an external speaker to this radio (which I'd rather have anyway)? I didn't see any readily accessable plug on it, so would i have to crack this thing open?

Ext Speaker Pin

You can attach a ext speaker to the radio. You just need to know which pin to attach the speaker to. It depends on if you have the 16 pin or 5 pin bus on the back of the radio.

Check out the following link for this information. You will see links in the first couple paragraphs for 16 pin and 5 pin connectors. Click on the link and it will show you which pin is the ext speaker.

I hope this helps.

You can either buy one from Moto/ebay/whatever

or use a computer IDE cable.

If that Maxtrac has a 16 pin accessory connector, then you might check to make sure the plug didn't get knocked out. The accessory plug has to be plugged in because there is a jumper that has to be in place for the internal speaker to work.

You can get an accessory plug kit from your local Moto. RSS.

Ok, I don't have the female plug that actually attaches to the radio. I bought it off ebay with just the power cord and mic. So I need the plug to activate the speaker at all? That does help. Anyone have a Part Number for the sixteen pin plug? Thanks!

The easiest thing to do is just get a computer header jumper (.100 pin spacing) and install it over pins 15 and 16 on the accessory connector.
