Feed broadcasters,

The Live Audio Administration Team has made some updates to our feed broadcaster Terms of Service which each broadcaster needs to review and comply with.

In addition, we are requiring that each feed broadcaster directly certify that each one of their feeds is in compliance with these Terms of Service.

To start the process, access your feed management page and click on the "TOS" (Terms of Service) tab and follow the instructions on the page. If you broadcast multiple feeds you will need to certify each one separately. Please take the time to read through each of the Terms of Service items and verify that your feed is in compliance. There are no significant changes to our existing policies, however, we want to make absolutely certain that every broadcaster is complying with our Terms of Service and policies.

Note that feeds that have not been certified by February 1st, 2011 will be disconnected until the Terms of Service certification has been completed for that feed.

In a few days, we plan to send out email notifications to the providers of feeds which have not yet been certified and will make ample efforts to contact providers that have not yet certified their feeds as the disconnect date approaches.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email the audio administration staff (audio@radioreference.com) or respond to this thread.

Thanks,
Gordon

Done... Both feeds taken care of here. I didn't see anything bothersome there, basically just a check box version of the same TOS that i read when i started my feeds originally.

Relax people... LOL

Done here as well.

Too bad it couldn't have just been one check box stating "I agree to exercise common sense and follow the long-since established feed rules."

Ugh... PLEASE edit this:

===
I agree to NOT broadcast dedicated federal government communications, except where the communications relate to fire fighting, EMS operations, space shuttle launch or ISS communications, and park ranger operations, subject to the terms of service in the other related categories
===

I really like the Kennedy Space Center comms during day-to-day stuff, I'd hate to see you have to remove that feed for not fitting the certification. They do have a few of the shuttle maintenance / safety talkgroups in there between launches.

I have 1 question about the new TSO.

"I agree to NOT broadcast dedicated channels or talkgroups used to request records information. (license checks, criminal history checks, NCIC etc)"

My feed consist of Alameda Sheriff Dispatch 1-3, and their Service Channels 1-3. From my listening experience of almost 4 years, the service channels have about 3 different ways of use.

1st - When the main dispatch channel is on priority talk for a breaking incident, all regular traffic is moved onto a service channel until the emergency traffic is finished on the main dispatch channel.

2nd - Usually when a deputy pulls someone over, or wants to run a DL check or warrant check on a subject, they usually switch over to a service channel to not hold up traffic on the main dispatch channel.

3rd - A lot of Car-to-Car traffic happens on all 3 Service Channels, and communications from dispatch to deputy's.

So my question is, am I still able to keep my feed how it is, or do I have to remove the Service Channels 1-3.
Thanks,

Brett

You can leave your feed as is since the service channels are not dedicated to carrying records information, it sounds like they're used as general TAC/non-dispatch traffic.

It's about liability. And given the fact that we provide our feeds free of charge. And we all know money is being made...The site, the apps, etc. I have to admit this rubs me the wrong way. I'm considering pulling my feed as well. Maybe I'll just pay the annual fee to have download access to the data base that we also provide. We are a generous lot, are we not?

Remember it coast money to run this site...

That was very painless. I have broadcasted two questionable TAC talkgroups for years. I've only rarely heard anything on them -- they do, however, qualify as falling into one of the categories. But it took me all of 30 seconds to remove them, and then I was able to get a clean sweep of checkmarks with a clear conscience.

This is a no-brainer. If anyone has a problem with this policy, in the global picture the RR community is probably better off without their feed anyway.

I hate drama. This isn't a broadway rehearsal. If you want to pull your feed, don't talk about it - just do it :)

Is this such a big deal?

Well stated, Mike. I've got other scanners on which I can still listen to stuff that RR doesn't want streamed over their network, so I'm not being deprived of a thing. I had just one freq that I've now locked out of my RR scan list.

One question for the Admins: I'm close to a Coast Guard Air Station, who almost exclusively does rescue activity here... their semi-occasional law (interdiction) stuff is almost always encrypted. I assume this falls within the "Rescue" category and that I may continue streaming it?

To the question about multiple check-offs rather than a single "I agree to all of the above," I think the way they've done it is a better way to ensure that we don't miss an item buried within the list. For myself, I appreciate the in-writing reminder of the TOS/guidelines, to help me stay on the straight and narrow. :)

All this time I thought I owned my scanner. If I had known Radio Reference was a part owner, I would have asked them for their half of the money so I could buy a GRE PSR-600.

TOS Certification

Hmmm, my guess of why they (RR) are re-enforcing their TOS policy with a certification on every feed..yes it's liability..but my gut is telling me there was, or is, or threat of and / or the possibly pending some legal action by a person(s), govt angency(s) local, county, state or Federal etc. RR is just trying to protect itself:roll:.

I find it interesting that a copy of the new TOS was noted posted here for the general public to view; only feed administrators could read it's details under the the "Manage my feed" section.

It's been interesting, but I think re.com is becoming too big and considering my feed was provided for free, yet rr.com has been selling access to it for smartphone users, etc I'm done as well.

Effective 02/11/2011, my feed will go silent as well. I can broadcast it myself with Proscan and share it to whom I wish and include the content I choose...

Censorship in the 21st century, gotta love it. I think I'll refrain from my database submissions as well since Uniden's new Home Patrol scanner is relying on those too... By the way, we provide those to rr.com for free too...

I'm out, period... Censorship my a**!
