See if either of there links, found on Whittler's website, will help. I don't own that specific scanner, so I cannot verify either.

I just read a thread about this somewhere on the site the other day.
I never knew this activation code thing was a WalMart thing.

What is the purpose, to thwart theft or something?
Interesting.

I did not know that either. Maybe to reduce theft, but if you can go to the linked site (in those two articles) and recover the code, then, to me, that would not be much of a deterrent.

Yes, it is an anti theft addition to other products such as tablets. There is a sign up in the local store warning about the use of the code. On the tablet I bought, it was printed on the receipt.
