I just bought a discone scanner ant. made by nevada. Not realizing it was a N-Connector on the ant. I screwed in a pl-259. Of course I broke the 2 small pins inside the antenna. Does anyone have any sugg. on fixing this? Or do I have a 100 dollar papper wieght?
Also what is a good low loss cable to use? Im running this ant. 20ft above my roof on a mast. Should this also be grounded? I have a lot of larger trees that our taller than the ant.
please help!

Can the N-connector assembly be removed from the antenna base itself, or is it all one piece? If it's removable you may be able to fashion your own replacement connector, or order the part from the manufacturer.

As to coax... opinions abound. Personally, I use quality RG6 quad shield coax for most all my receive antennas and remain pleased with the results.

You're not the first person to do that, trust me... At least you were honest and didn't claim the antenna is defective, like most.

I'm sure the manufacturer can sell you the replacement part to fix it.

If you live where there's lightning, then yes, it's good to ground both the mast and also have protection on the cable. Check your local electrical codes to see what they recommend for grounding. The only sure-fire way to stop lightning from entering through the cable is to disconnect it during storms and reconnect it to a ground that would take the jolt down into the grounding system. A suppressor is better than nothing, but it's not 100% protection.

Any 50 Ohm cable is best... You could get away with RG8/X if you're doing about 30', but RG8 size would be preferable for longer. Go with the correct connectors on the ends and not adapters.

If you broke off the center pin out of the N connector, then the antenna is basically ruined, unless the connector can be removed and replaced. The dealer or manufacturer should be able to determine if it can be repaired or not.
