Which company should I order my Airspy Mini from? Airspy.us or ITEAD?

I’ve ordered all four of my Airspy SDRs from Airspy.us and they’ve been great. I even shipped one of my Airspy SDRs back to Airspy.us to be re-calibrated after I accidentally mis-calibrated it, which was a cool service.

I have ordered mine (multiple orders) from airspy.us and have had zero issues with them.

Ordered 2 back in 2023 and 2022 from airspy.us. Never had issues
There are some who will say you don't want to deal with Airspy.US,
What are the issues with this site? I've never had any personally but this is the first time I've seen this mentioned

I've just seen people complain in the past about issues when trying to get something returned, or a person who just doesn't like the operator of Airspy.US. Like I said, I've never had an issue. They've always had what I wanted in stock and have always shipped fast.

That's the first I've ever heard about it. That's good to know.
I've used them and they were great all 4 times

Everything's great until you have a defective SDR. Then things get weird.

Defective (from the start) is one thing. But they have to determine if it was truly defective from the factory.

One of my Airspy R2's had a USB jack fail (got ripped from the board). Sure, i don't like the design and that is part of the fault. But I also know that had I been more cautious when inserting the cable and had I been more careful about letting the Airspy dangle from the cable, it wouldn't have happened. I didn't even bother to contact Airspy about it. It wasn't their fault . It was mine. Had a contacted them, they would have asked a gazillion questions and may have appeared very difficult to work with. And I would completely understand if that were to have happened.

Can't just take back every Airspy that isn't working based upon somebody's report. Have to try and figure out if they know what they are talking about; if they broke it themselves; if they are even telling the whole truth about it.

When the vendor says they can't handle a gmail mail account and demand communication using another email domain, that's a clue right there. Then there's the radio that fails after 3 months. A reputable vendor that has a good relationship with its suppler / manufacturer normally replaces a unit with no questions asked. But hey, buyers beware. I learned my lesson.

Can't handle a Gmail account? My Airspy.US login is tied to my Gmail account. Every bit of correspondence that I've ever had between either the Airspy.US site or the operator / respondent were just fine. I've never had anyone tell me that they can't deal with Gmail addresses.

Maybe ITEAD doesn't want to deal with Gmail (or free addresses in general).

I wouldn't expect them to replace anything after 3 months of use. Sorry, I guess that's just me. After 3 months I would have used the hell out of any Airspy. It would have been constantly running and sending copious bits 24/7 (monitoring trunked systems, or capturing ADSB data).

You are making an assumption as to the vendor. A vendor / company who does not stand by their products after only 3 months of intermittent use is not worthy of continued patronage. Sorry if I have higher expectation of quality and performance than you, but I'm not being unreasonable.

I didn't say you were being unreasonable. I simply don't have the same expectations regarding the Airspy. I've owned at least 10 R2s and a few minis. The only ones I had problems with were ones that I had admittedly not handled properly -- such as not being careful with the USB connection, or leaving them plugged in to external antennas during local thunderstorms. In my mind, that's on me. If one of them had failed for some other reason than my own carelessness, I'd expect to the vendor to at least entertain the possibility of replacing it.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I also had a similar problem with them. It has been like pulling teeth to get them to answer my questions and direct me where to go for a factory warranty / repair on an AirSpy R2 that suddenly stopped working one morning.
