I'm looking for a do-it-all antenna for casual scanning across multiple bands. Is the Austin Spectra the only NMO option?

I currently have a Tram 1094 magnet antenna which is OK, but I'm looking to upgrade.

Tram makes an affordable discone antenna that does 25 MHz to 1 GHz.

These are the best multiband antennas, however they have no gain.

- didn’t realize you were looking for a mobile antenna -

If you don't need VHF lo band then take a look at the COMPACtenna Scan III or LMR-1. If you need VHF lo then your choices are very limited. Here is a comparison I did of a COMPACtenna to a Larsen tri band and a Laird tri band but these antennas do not cover VHF lo. The COMPACtenna not only held its own over most useable frequency ranges, it performed better than the others at some frequencies. Comparison, Larsen Tri-band, Laird WPD136M6C-001, COMPACtenna Scan III - 118 to 922MHz

Here is a comparison of an Austin Spectra and A/S MON series to a 9ft tall military broad band antenna. You can see the Austin and A/S have narrow peak resonances in the VHF lo band so there is no real good consistent all frequency antenna available unless you look at some very expensive military versions. See post # 21 here 30-50 mhz antenna?
