I bought this software ScanControl PRO Edition and my scanner is a bct8

My goal I have somewhat accomplished. I wanted to be able to upload scanning frequencies to my scanner and have them alpha tagged to what the frequencies were automatically via importing csv files and using scancontrol pro

I was able to add 50 frequencies to bank one but i think i got the wrong label for the alphatagging on the column in the csv when i was assigning the name column what i wanted it to import as in scancontrol pro

also I am all the way around confused on how to upload and how i should edit the csvs for trunking information i will have ids for the trunks and what not when i pull the csv from radioreference and there will be say 5 or 6 frequencies for the trunk

also my end goal is to have all the police frequencies in my area only show up im somewhat new to the hobby again at least this time im trying to designate and alpha tag whereas in the past i would just blindly scan for stuff which was fun to but i am wanting a premium setup for my scanner

thanks to all that reply i live in the NW arkansas area

I have an older version of Scan Control - haven't used it in quite a while, but let's see what we can do here...

I'm not sure what your issue is here; seems to me it's just a matter of changing the data mapper to point to the correct column you want to use for the alpha tag and reload it.

I think you're getting mixed up somewhat with trunking. Your first order of business is to set up the bank for trunking (set the type of trunking) and add all the frequencies for the trunk into the desired bank.

After that, then you would add your desired talkgroups with all the alpha tags to identify them. I can't install Scan Control while I'm at work, but if memory serves, there are specific buttons on each screen to control the uploading. You would first upload the trunk frequencies for the bank, then bring up the banks with the talkgroups and upload them. I *think* there's an option for doing all the trunk banks at the same time.

In other words, it's a 2 step process.

I would suggest downloading the PDF manual for the software and reading it; you might be able to clear up what is confusing you. It would also help to know what system(s) you are trying to load. Go up to the blue toolbar under the site title on the left and float your mouse over Database Use the pulldowns to get the state and trunk system(s) you want to load, then c'mon back with the URLs.

best regards...Mike

Not possible; MOTOTRBO cannot be decoded by any scanner. As you notice, there are no decimal talkgroups associated with this system

Read the manual; it's pretty decent (I should know, I helped write some of it...)

best regards..Mike

[edit] Go down about 2/3 of the way in the article below, look for a section called 'system voices'. This will lay out the kinds of systems the BCT8 can and cannot handle

thanks for the insight

im definitely learning is all for the police frequencies in my area could i just go through the conventional frequencies and input them via csv and cut the rest out if i just want police only

to have it show an alpha tag of what im listening to there is a great deal of conventional frequencies in my area

just need to know what to assign the name column for the scan program i have i can get teh frequencies to show up in my scanner but would like to get the name of the frequencies

i noticed per bank i can store up to 50 frequencies

maybe this would be better than just adding the trunks i think i can store the police frequencies in my area to just one bank and scan that bank only but still want it to show the alpha tagging

If memory serves, you don't need to 'cut' anything - just specify which line(s) you want to import. Save the mapping of the data away so you can come back to it again, then get the next set of lines.

This is all spelled out - guess where?

thanks for all the response

man you have been helpful on insight

I believe that is the only trunk in my area that I would care to add aside from that I think i need to build a csv with the police only frequencies in my area and surrounding

I will play around with this i am thinking i just need to import the name and frequency columns of the csv not sure what to import the name column as in ScanControl PRO Edition to do alpha tagging to the frequencies so the alpha tag will show instead of the frequency on scanning

thanks again

alpha tagging

in the software scancontrol i was able to input the channel frequency and the channel tag or i believe is referred to also as the alpha tag telling what the frequency represents.

will the dct8 shows alpha tags instead of channel frequencies??

i know the channel tags are showing up in my bank 1 programming when i import not sure what else to do or if there is a setting on the scanner to set this

Dunno - I don't have a BCT8...sri

Just skipping through the manual, I'd say no, the BCT8 doesn't support alpha tags (software has it as a reference for users) but a question on the Uniden forum about whether the BCT8 supports alpha tags would surely bring a fast response.

Full Stop - hi...

Thanks Comint.

Well you can still use the alpha tags in virtual mode, decadude. Take a look at the user guide to tell you about that. Both my 245 and 895 run off SC and I get tags to show up there; the BCT8 should be a no-brainer.

dumb question have to make sure virtual mode you mean have the scanner scanning but interfaced with computer software??

Basically that's it. The software and scanner are communicating with one another; although you will never see the tags on the scanner, you will see them on Scan Control's screen as it looks up whatever you provided in its data file.

Once again, I urge you to READ the manual! It's pretty well written (and not just because I worked on it).

best regards...Mike
