Hi,

Recently spent 2 separate weeks at Alys Beach. Scanner (TRX-1) was useless. Could have simply been the fact that the building I was staying in was steel reinforced concrete and was close to others on each side. Tried a homebrew indoor antenna about 5 feet long but couldn't even hear a weather station. Could hear Bay County anytime on my phone using Scanner Radio Pro, but nothing from the scanner. Just wondered if anyone else had run into this.

Condo's are indeed an RF black hole. It looks like your location was on the edge of multiple NOAA WX transmitters but more in the fringe for each of them, couple that with alot of fortress like buildings around you and that could account for poor propagation. Have a look at this:

Also when I was hanging out in Gulf Shores/OBA my TRX2 was pretty much useless on the P2 700mhz system, I believe, due to the cell antennas all over the buildings.
