Amazon offerred the BCD996P2 for $380. I ordered one on Sunday, Sept 28th. It was a Prime order which stated next day delivery, Monday. It did not arrive on Monday, instead, I got the following from Amazon on Tuesday;

“Hello,
There is a delay in shipping your order because of a supply chain issue. We'll make every effort to get the delayed item to you as soon as possible. If you still want this item, please confirm below. We apologize for the delay. I have omitted my order number

Details

Placed on Sunday, September 28, 2025

New estimated delivery date:

Thursday, October 2, 2025

To Cancel Order;

If we don't hear from you by Tuesday, October 7, 2025, we will cancel the item. Otherwise, we will send it to you when we have a delivery date and it's ready to ship.

Uniden BCD996P2 Digital Mobile Trunk...

Sold by Amazon.com Services, Inc”

Two questions… first, I was under the impression Uniden had some sort of control over what their scanners sold for new. Every other outlet was listing the radio at $499 (or more if it was from some premium outlet), But no less than $499. If this price control is in effect how does Amazon sell it for $380? That caused me thinking someone at Amazon mistakenly mis-priced the radio, is selling the previous BCD996XT model or listed it as new when it is a returned-refurbished radio.

The $380 price sounded too good to be true, and I intended to examine it when it arrives and determine its authenticity. I still do. The delay notice says delivery will happen tomorrow so stay tuned. My hope is that Amazon violated some price setting understanding (if in fact there is one) and I get the advertised $380 price.

I will try to remember to update after I get the scanner.

That is interesting. I've gotten those types of messages from Amazon but usually after waiting on something for a month. I've never gotten one right after placing the order. And you have to agree to continue waiting from a PC online. It never will allow me to do it from a phone and it even states something about that in my messages I've seen.

My first thought after reading what you were saying was the same as yours. I've literally waited maybe three or four months before to finally get something that I was supposed to be getting much earlier from Amazon. I have also received items from Amazon that were not brand new and we're supposed to be. That has happened a number of times through the years and there was no doubt about it. I've even had Amazon tell me that happens sometimes. So be very observant and if you see anything suspicious I would personally call Amazon and tell them that you got a product that was not brand new and you want a brand new replacement.

Please update if you get a chance and let us know how it turns out. And good luck!

I'd be careful, even though it's sold and shipped by Amazon, they like sending manufactured refurbished products. Everyone else is $499.95 on the Uniden Bearcat BCD996P2

Main Trading Company (located in Paris, Texas) is currently selling the BCD996P2 for $389.00 with FREE shipping. The other added benefit to buying from MTC is that they don't charge sales tax to all states/jurisdictions like Amazon does.

At one point MTC was only charging sales tax on orders shipped to Texas but it has been reported in these RR forums that some additional states have been added to their sales tax list. To find out for sure, you can just fill out an order form on their website and see if they charge sales tax to where you are shipping to.

If you don't have to pay sales tax at MTC, their $389.00 price may in fact be cheaper than the $380.00 price at Amazon when you add in the sales tax. YMMV depending on where you are shipping to.

I checked the prices at other outlets and agree. It’s my intention to hold Amazon to that discounted price for a new BCD996P2 if they try to stick me with a refurbished unit. There are truth in advertising laws on the books, both state and federal that protect against such practices like “bait and switch”, etc.

I would suggest cancelling the order with Amazon and placing the order with Main Trading Company where you know you will get a brand-new unit AND you will save $15+ by ordering from MTC instead of Amazon.

I checked the Main Trading Company website (mtcradio.com) to see if they charge sales tax on orders shipped to Connecticut (state as listed in the OP's posting) and they DO NOT. Based on that information your total delivered price will be $389.00 with MTC while your total delivered price with Amazon will be $404.13 ($380.00 plus $24.13 6.35% CT sales tax).

Always support local businesses over Scamazon. MTC are a class act, and you get a LIVE PERSON in Paris, TX when you call, not some turd AI spam bot or offshore call center designed to blow you off. MTC cares about their reputation, Jeff Bezos would tell you to go piss into a fan.

Can anyone shed some light on the “price fixing” by Uniden I mentioned? Is it true, or just a “But I saw it on the internet so it must be true!” line of BS?

See this RR thread which explains Uniden's Minimum Advertised Price (MAP). Uniden dealers are "not supposed to" openly or publicly advertise a price that is lower than Uniden's MAP for that product. It does not mean that they can't sell it for less than the MAP. Also, it appears that most Uniden dealers follow the MAP rules but there are some "outliers" which the consumer has to be on the lookout for to get the best deal.

By the way, the current Uniden MAP for the BCD996P2 is $499.99 which is the price you have been seeing at most of the Uniden dealers that you have visited online.

Amazon today has a new price. $353.14 plus state tax. Delivered it will cost $375 and change. Since my wife pays for the “Prime” discounts at $125 per year, I figure we should use it. Last tally on using the Prime discounts shows my wife has just recently broken even on her orders, so any prime savings going forward are real. My new delivery date is this Friday. Radio and state tax only-no shipping costs. I am still going to examine the scanner to verify it’s new and not refurbished or returned.

n1chu-Check how the outside gift box looks and the S/N, and if it was made in 2025, the first number should be 5 after the 4-digit code.

Thanks for posting this. I've wanted a 996P2 since my 996XT went silent monitoring the CLMRN after the move to Phase 2 however many years ago. I just couldn't justify another $500 scanner.

OP25 was fun to play with and get going but having a scanner again will be nice.
