Does anyone know the frequency for the smaller school buses in Amherst, Mass? I see a vhf 1/4 wave antenna on top of the smaller school buses but unable to find them on my scanner radio: Tried to look up online but could not find. The type of transmission, analog or digital would also be helpful. Thanks

google seems to point to these School Districts all sharing services/contracts
The Amherst, Pelham, and Amherst-Pelham Regional School Districts
Amherst-Pelham years ago used 155.1750 D-244
Expired in 2023. but should not be ruled out
They also had 151.5425R and 154.5400 both expired in 2023 as well but those licenses were maintained by Goosetown, so
the thought is the DMR Trunks ?
Thanks for getting back to me. I do have a DMR radio but don't think it will receive a trunked service. I am able to copy the food service at U Mass on DMR though...I'll listen to the 2 Goosetown frequencies and see if I hear anything and, I'm hearing something close by on 151.5400.

151.5400 is not a valid FCC allocation it would be one of these three

I found the local school bus on 151.5425/R. There was some mix-up with the buses this afternoon and I heard it all including my grandson's name. The closest frequency I can dial up on my radio is 151.54375. It's good enough to hear them clearly. Thanks for the information.

What PL/DPL are they using ??
and make sure you do a DB Submission to get it into the RR DB
Finding the PL will be a challenge as they don't key down long enough to do a search. There's no one else on the frequency in the area, so I've been listening on carrier squelch. I will enter the info though.

Most of the current (past 10 yrs) Scanners will auto detect the PL/DPL and display it.
What make/model is your scanner ?

That would not be a "Scanner Radio"
It may have a feature to scan for the PL tone. It does have great scanning features with banks you can easily set up for scanning. I have different banks for local police/fire, amateur radio bands from 6m to 902 Mz, am aircaraft & more. It does not transmit outside of the Ham bands.
I used an Icom 2730A for both ham and scanning before moving out of Mass. One of the limitations of that radio and perhaps yours is that it will not do 7.5Khz channel spacing. On VHF that meant that I couldn't correctly program in 158.9925 for Hopedale PD.
If you FT5D has the same limitation that's why you couldn't program it. While looking for a new scanner to replace my FT-8800R I didn't find one mobile ham radio that allowed 7.5 Khz.

I find that I can tune close enough to listen.
Hey Hamop, Do you have a scanner as well? That may help here if you do. If not, we got others who monitor that area, myself included, who should be able to determine the PL. Thanks for the heads up!
OK No worries. This is a team effort. As I said, we have several other users here who live around there that could put this into a receiver with PL search to ID it. I too will try it next time I am in the area.
