Good morning all. I'm jumping into radios headlong here and need some antenna guidance from the guys my Dad would call, "the old gray dogs"... you know, the experienced chaps.

In a single day I purchased a Grundig S350 SW radio, a Cobra 25 LTD CD base unit, a Radio Shack Pro-433 and RS Pro-84 handheld (actually 2 Pro-84s so my son and I have matching ones for the races). With that said...

In layman's terms could someone give me some suggestions on a basic antenna setup that would be suitable for SW, Scanner and CD? Is that even possible? I have a pole for an antenna that is both sturdy (I work for a structural steel manufacturing plant) and about 20-24 feet in length to mount any antenna(s) to.

Help a newbie out, fellas... these cheesy antennas that came with these radios just ain't gonna get it.

So if you were in my shoes and wanting to find a happy medium between price and quality what would you do?

Thanks in advance.... Clutch

Thanks, RayK, for you imput. It will be an outdoor antenna which I should have been more specific about. But if any of you good folks have such with a similar setup talk to me... share that information. Oh, and let me share some information with y'all: LSU-28, Florida-24 ... GEAUX TIGERS!

This AOR antenna supposedly covers 30KHz to 2 GHz:

I have not used one myself, so I cannot comment on how well it performs. But the point is that yes, there is a single antenna that "does it all".

Thanks...

I appreciate the link, Ken. Just getting back into radios in the midst of remodeling the hacienda. My "office" is the last room to be remodeled and I can't begin to tell y'all how excited I am about putting together my own "shack". So much to learn, so much to do and all the fun to be had!

Better check the transmit frequencies of those, most are 40Mhz and up, well above CB used frequencies. If it were me I'd get a seperate one for each radio otherwise you get into interference issues if you have them all on one antenna. And transmitting could damage the other radios if connected to the same antenna.

Actually I agree with Viper43, I would keep any transmitting antenna seperate from any receiving antenna. The antenna I linked to in my post above is wide range for receiving, but I would get a seperate antenna for transmitting on the CB bands. Sorry, I really can't recommend a good CB antenna, I've never really been into CB.
