Well guys, once again EMS has changed in MS,.... Once upon a time, the primary agency in MS was Mobile Medic......

AMR absorbed them, and took over all operation statewide.....

Metro Rural, now just Metro Ambulance, began sneaking in in Vicksburg, and Natchez... and has now grown to multiple counties.....

Emergistat appears and is growing fast,...

Rankin County's EMS agency folded, and Acadian Ambulance out of LA, saw an oppurtunity, and thus began operations in Rankin, and bought out operations in Jackson County,....

Now Acadian and AMR have struck a deal, and have given thier MS operations to the ever present AMR, in exchange for AMR leaving most of its LA ops,.. In particular the lucrative New Orleans market. Now once again AMR is the primary provider in much of MS, and Acadian runs most of LA. Good deal for both companies,... but a lil confusing for scanner listeners.

I didn't realize AMR was still in business anywhere. I worked for a company they took over 8 years ago. Since then the AMR I worked for got bought out by a smaller local company and has ceased to operate in this state at all.

AMR didn't last long in Hattiesburg. AMR bought out Gieger Ambulance service after Gieger was investigated for Medicare Fraud. I think AMR only lasted a year or two here. Now in Hattiesburg there is only AAA Ambulance and in Lamar county, ASAP Ambulance.

AMR Ambulance

I left AMR Jan '03 after serving my sentence with them. Seriously, i was there about four years and at that time AMR was in like 20 something states. I very much enjoyed the opportunity and would like to get back into EMS part-time. They were/are pretty good company; no company is without it's share of problems but I choose to focus on the solutions instead of the problems. My grandma always said; lend a hand-don't point a finger. EMS had changed, what hasn't...Role with the changes. Happy Holidays all. Jimmy

I hear ya on the whole solution and problem thing. Years ago when I was in another county they had a private doing the als and bls service. Well they went down due to restructuring and another private came in with big sales people and it worked until they ran out of money and had mismanagement. Now local 362 of south bend fire provides 3 county purchased and funded ambulances and one sweet 4x4 excursion as a supervisor vehicle. It is the best system to date they will never go out of business. Change is inevitible wherever you are go with the flow.
