Personally, I think antennas are beautiful, but my homeowners association won't agree if i throw up a yagi on my chimney. Can you guys recommend an antenna that I can mount on my roof that won't cause a fuss? We're going for high-gain-and-low-profile here.

Thanks in advance!

edit: this will be an 800mhz only antenna.

Since you're talking about only 800 MHz here your task shouldn't be too difficult. You could easily hide a mobile 800 MHz mobile antenna on a small metal disk (about a foot diameter should be more than enough) where it wouldn't be visible. A no-gain version would only be about 3" tall and one with pretty good gain would be about 16-20" tall. There's also this (http://www.comtelcoantennas.com/PDF Datasheets/BNM800S.pdf) that will provide gain and is only 24" tall. You could even mount it on your roof with a piece of PVC pipe over it so it looks like a typical roof mounted plumbing vent.

Do they allow dishes if they do and the FCC says they must then a yagi is not that big of a deal unless your in Highlands Ranch, you may as well be in a communist country.

As another poster said, if you have dish or direc tv dishes then a 800mhz. yagi should be no big deal.
Otherwise there are on glass cell antennas that would work for scanning.

I double checked the guidelines. They're ok with a yagi it looks like, but if I understand correctly those are directional. I'm interested in just getting a height and gain advantage on the roof, and would like to receive DTRS sites all around me. Looks like I'm going to look into the first reply's idea. And lol at the Highlands Ranch comment. :)

Check out ventenna. They can make them for 800.

Steven jump into the Colorado forum and say Hi, or maybe you have. I don't think you are going to need anything big if you are in Arapahoe County unless you are way out east. I am in Castle Rock and have no problem getting an area from Fountain South to Northern Adams County I do this on a RS Discone antenna in my attach and a (JUST AS GOOD) installed on a roof vent as the base a 800mhz RS rubber duck I use the discone for my two feed scanners. I have a pro-106 and a 197 I listen to in the house and on the road, I use a through the glass antenna when traveling around.
