Just got a RS Magmount antenna a few days ago. I'm using it inside a 2nd story room because at this time im unable to do anything outside with an antenna.

I put it on my windowsill and have noticed a big reception boost, but I was wondering if i would get better reception putting it on the very top of my computer desk which is on the other side of the room from the window but around 4 feet higher than the windowsill.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Most mag mount antennas are designed to have a metal ground plain under them
to act as part of the antenna system. With no metal under the mag mount, then
your not using the antenna as designed. It won't perform to it's maximun design.

I've got the same setup with my magmount. There is a metal frame for the window under the paint. It works very well. If you have an aluminum frame window, I have heard people suggest using a metal soup or coffee can for a mounting surface. Failing that, a metal cookie sheet will also do the trick, usually in a high location.

I would suggest trying to place it on top of your fridge if you can...or small freezer if you have one...

Or buy a cheap pizza pan at the store for it.

Thanks everyone! I was unaware that these antennas are designed to have metal under them, so I think I'll either put a cookie sheet under it or find some other piece of metal.

Once again, thank you!

I found a nice top of a collector's knife set tin that I placed the magmount on. Already picking up frequencies that I couldn't before clear as day! Much thanks!

Steel Plate

You should have seen the guy with the metal plate in his head walking around the mall with his magmount...
