I'm putting a monitoring antenna (Larsen 150/450/800) on my 04 Explorer. I'll either mount the L bracket on the drivers side fender, or bolt it somehow to the roof luggage rack. The luggage rack is obviously higher for better reception, but it is plastic. Does it affect the antennas performance to not be directly in contact with the body metal/ground? Should I forgo the height for the direct mounting on the fender?
