This is a magnet mount antenna with a center loaded piece in the middle. It was the best antenna you could get at the time. I believe that this company and antenna are no longer in business.
What's the best magnet mount antenna you can get today that will cover most of all frequencies with perfect reception?

Antenna Specialists Mon-51 Magnet Mobile Antenna

This was one of the best antennas you could get. Even the news media uses this antenna on their news vans. I believe this company and antenna is no longer in existance.
What is the best antenna (magnet mount) that you can get today that will cover most used frequencies like the Mon-51 did and have the best reception like the Mon-51?

Austin Spectra. If you want one a little shorter, try the Larsen 150/450/800, but it won't receive the VHF low band as well as the Spectra. If low band isn't a consideration, go with the Larsen.

Neither of these antennas come on a magnet mount, but both of them use the industry standard NMO mount, and you can purchase an NMO mount with a magnet base if you choose. I drilled a hole for mine! :D

I do need the use of 42.000 band and VHF 155.000.
So then it would be the Austin Spectra? Have pics of this or where to buy from?

Thanks for the info. I am out of luck on this one as it says there is no magnet mount available anymore.
Plus you have to buy connectors?
The Mon-51 Antenna I bought came with connector and magnet mount and that was $40.00-$50.00 5 or so years ago.

This one is expensive.

Radio Shack has antennas that already include mount, cable and connector.

You can always purchase a magnet mount separately, which would likely come with the cable and connectors. If you want save money and buy a Radio Shack antenna, then by all means buy one!

I tested the A/S MON series antenna against the Austin Spectra and the A/S outperformed the Austin over much of the 30-50, 136-174 and 440-470MHz range. Its a really good antenna despite when it was designed.

The attached chart shows the A/S MON in red and the Austin Spectra in blue, both compared to another antenna in green.

A spectrum analyzer was used to measure precise signal levels on each antenna and all antennas were on the same mount.

I have a few of the A/S MON antennas with NMO mount (but no mag mount) brand new in package. PM me if your interested.

I have 2 Mon-51 antennas but coax on one is questionable. Somehow can the magnet mount from one of these two magnet mounts I have be used with what you have? I think it is just a matter of attaching antenna to magnet mount but I don't know how the coax would connect. I am by no means handy in these electronics.
In fact currently I am having a problem with one of my handhelds I use in mobile that doesn't pick up signals fully or with lots of static using a Mon-51 on a magnetic mount. When I touch connector the signal comes in strong. I understand this antenna connection is a common problem with handhelds.

The A/S MON series with mag mounts I have seen use an NMO on the antenna and the mag mount was an older series mount with a plastic adapter to mate with NMO threads. If this is what you have my antennas will fit. The coax can be replaced on those mounts but its not fun, its easier to buy an aftermarket mag with coax for about $25.

Where would I get something like this for $25.00? Any pics? Easy to hook up or it it just a matter of plug in?

The AS Mon Antenna has served me well that's why I have 3 of them all of them old and now something wrong with each one. It coveres those exact frequencies I monitor plus it does fine on the 800 band.

If your asking about the NMO magnet mount without antenna do an Ebay search using "NMO mag mount" and you'll fine them from about $16 to $0. You would want at least a 5" dia magnet for the big A/S MON antenna that's around 47" long.

Thanks I'll do that. If there is an easier way like going to an electronics store or scanner store local or mailorder let me know as I prefer to see a product before I buy it. I know nothing about pay pal or how e-bay works on purchases. Most of the time those items appear to be used and I prefer new.
I might be interested in those AS antennas you have but only if it is a simple easy to do hook up to magnet mount with coax already attached..

As

Yes, I can recall having that wonderful AS antenna. I had this attached to two types of Motorola mounts, the one that came with it and a Larsen. I wish I still had that antenna. If I am not mistaken, there was a black cylindrical piece of metal located on the stinger. I wish I could find one of these because I would buy it in a heartbeat.
