The system in my area is Motorola type 2. i have the 4 data channels, can anyone help me
how i need to set up my scanner(uniden 246)?

Menu Program System ->E, New System ->E, MOT ->E, 800MHz Standard

Set Frequencies ->E, New Frequency <repeat and enter your four control channel frequencies>.

Menu Program System ->E, Select the system <that you put your four control channel frequencies in> ->E, Edit system options ->E, Set C-C Only ->E.

Press scan. Your 246 should find the active control channel and start tracking.

Now you can create a Group and enter the talkgroups in them from the Program System menu. then experiment and try assigning alpha tags to your System and Groups and Talkgroups.

One you use the menu system you'll figure it out.

I'd recommend the Radio Shack 20-283 800MHz antenna. It works well with the 246 and will work with other bands as well: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102525
