Would anyone happen to know what was going on on 76/224 in the Norton area around 8am today? I'm driving down 76 and see at least a dozen OSP troopers, an ambulance and what looked like a Sheriff's transport van (not sure but it was black) with several prisoners in orange standing around. I'm just wondering if someone decided to escape from the van or if there was a break out in the area. There was work going on in the back of the ambulance.

Prisoner attempts van escape on I-76

I saw this in the news:

http://www.ohio.com/news/break_news/9172232.html

NORTON: A Columbiana County man, on his way to prison in Lorain with other inmates this morning, reportedly kicked out the back window of the transport van traveling about 50 miles per hour on Interstate 76 in Norton and tried to jump out.

Some of the other prisoners in the van were hit with flying glass and were treated at the scene.

The would-be escapee faces charges of attempted escape.

Thanks Mick!!! I guess I made a pretty good guess to what happened :)

Dang... orange and red splatted all over the road if he made it. He should have had on leg shackles and cuffed at the waist. What a fool if he was trying to jump. But he would have learned a painful lesson. Good for thinning the gene pool too.
