i saw that in the back of last months QST. For a hundred bucks, it seemed a little limited

I have not used it but it seems real expensive for a receive only handheld antenna for the VX-7, Th-f6a or similiar radio.

A better value for the money would be the Miracle Antenna, but thats just my opinion.
