To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all,

I have posted this on another person thread re firmware issues incase they have some insight but Id like to start a dedicated topic relating to this very strange issue..

I have a brand new UV878v2 Plus. But there is no bluetooth anywhere in the menu and if I set a quick key to enable it says "Bluetooth not install" in a big error box on the screen. Do these modules fail? The radio is literally 2 days old and only just got around to trying to pair the PTT BT button to find the radio doesnt seem to have BT...

Any thoughs or tricks? Is there something in a test mode that can enable or disable the actual module being seen? (The sticker on the back of the radio is def a UVII Plus with GPS and BT boxes ticked. Also, in the device info, there is no APRS or BT firmware versions, it stops at SCT 3258 Ver: V2.01.07BA (And even that sometimes disapears randomly...)

Ive emailed seller about a refund or replacement but they are being difficult thinking im an idiot that hasnt turned BT on.. Argh.. they dont understand it doesnt even show any firmware versions for the APRS/BT module in the device info.

Hi there. I don't know if this will help (I would expect the firmware for Bluetooth and APRS to have been pre-installed), but you can try installing the most current firmware for the main radio, and then there is separate updates of firmware for APRS, and another one for Bluetooth (and one last one for updated screen icons).

It is a bit cumbersome to do so, but that may correct the problems. There are good guides on how to do that on Bridgecom's website or I'm sure other sources have the same info available.

When I purchased my 878, it had all the firmware pre-installed, but all of it needed to be updated to be current.

I feel for you. The sellers often omit something, then get weird when you try to get it corrected.

Thanks for thre reply Bill. Yes I tried all of that to no avail. The seller finally approved a return and I should be getting a replacement item. It truely seemed like it was an error from the factory and that particular radio had no BT hardware installed, or it failed. I only had the radio in my posession for less than 24hrs.

Hopfully thre new one will all function correctly.

When you receive your new 878 there should be a label on the back, under the battery compartment which will show your options. Such as a black dot next to GPS and/or BT Bluetooth.

Yes I know that bit, the last radio had GPS and BT ticked haha thats why I think either the board failed, or the person putting that radio together "failed" :p

I have had the exact same issue happen with my Anytone. All of a sudden the Bluetooth settings just disappeared from the menu and the version information doesn't show up in the radio info menu either. Is there any place that these can be sent in for repair? Unfortunately it's likely out of warranty.

I know this is a late response, but in the CPS did you enable Bluetooth? Check at Top Menu Bar - Tool>Options. Otherwise, did the replacement radio function correctly?

I have the same problem, and it's happened again!!!

I bought the Anytone AT-D878UVII Plus radio station. When I received the mobile, the bluetooth worked fine. I updated the radio station according to the instructions to version 3.05 and loaded my codeplug, the radio worked fine, I got into the car and connected the radio to my car radio (teeyes), for this I had to change the pin code for bluetooth in the radio station. The radio connected and Bluetooth worked fine, but in the evening of the same day I saw a message that the bluetooth module was not installed. I exchanged the radio station under warranty for a new one, but after performing all the same actions, the radio station lost the bluetooth module again. I suspect that the problem is software and not hardware.
I also updated the satellite database using standard tools from the source https://www.amsat.org/tle/dailytle.txt, in both cases this action was after synchronization with the car, perhaps it was after this action that the Bluetooth module stopped working.
Resetting the settings does not help, re-flashing does not help, returning to the previous version of the firmware did not help either.
What are your thoughts on this?
Tell me what I should do to fix the Bluetooth module? (I am a technically literate person, so I can follow the instructions) I can send you my codeplug, but I do not think that the problem is in it, since the same one is installed at another station and works (but the satellite database was not updated there, everything else was done the same way).

There is Bluetooth firmware in the 3.05 zip file. It is applied separately from the 3.05 firmware. Look for a folder APRS + BT FW 2.00 in the zip file. Install directions are in that folder.

I tried to upload this firmware, it seems to upload, but the radio station does not show any signs, after uploading I just waited a couple more minutes and rebooted the radio station, but the Bluetooth module did not work. I will also note that the instructions say that if you have version 2.00, then there is no need to update, I had exactly this version.
I will add that another radio station from the same batch works fine without updating the Bluetooth module. And I especially emphasize that this radio station also worked fine for some time after updating the main firmware!!!
And it stopped working a day later. During this day, only channel changes were made and the satellite database was updated. Nothing else was done.

I think it is the firmware updates that are killing the Bluetooth (BT) module. I had the same issue, after updating, the BT disappeared. I updated today to 3.06 (new release 1/23/2025) but it did not fix the issue either. I ordered a new BT module a few days ago and decided to see if installing it would restore the BT function. After installing the new BT module the BT function was restored.

Maybe so. I haven't done any firmware updates on my 878uv since I bought it new, 4 years ago, and my bluetooth works fine.

I can't speak for @DeFaber but I know when I rolled back by firmware my Bluetooth did not return.
I confirm that rolling back the firmware does not help. I also tried to go back to 3.04 and even to 3.03, but Bluetooth did not work.

I continued my research, disassembled a similar radio and swapped the bluetooth boards. This research confirmed that the bluetooth boards fail, so replacing the bluetooth board helps.

Now I need to understand what exactly causes the bluetooth board to fail and how to return it to working condition.
I am deeply convinced that bluetooth fails tz-due to a program error, which means it can be returned to working condition by reflashing the board, but the bluetooth module has at least 2 chips (CPU HC32F005 and Bluetooth CYW20707UA1KFFB4GT) that have different firmware and the main thing is where to get them in hex or bin format so that I can flash them with a programmer.

I'll think about it...
maybe I'll disassemble the working radio again and try to read the working firmware from it, but first I need to make sure that I don't break the 2nd radio :)
