I own a AOR 8200 Mk II but need a second scanner. I want to know if anyone has compared the Uniden BCD396XT with the 8200 with regard to sensitivity and S/N. I've reviewed specs of each unit, I'm not sure the two manufacturers are using the same technical criteria when posting their specs for sensitivity and S/N. Has anyone had the opportunity to evaluate the two units side by side at the same time from the same signal source and conclusively said one is better than the other. Footnote, the only reason I'm looking at the 396 is for future digital capability. I don't want to scarifice sensitivity reception for the digital capability. I've never been impressed with digital reception via any scanner yet.

I have never used the AOR 8200 but have considerable experience with the BC 396XT. For digital, it does just fine, plenty sensitive. It works quite well on VHF and Air band too.

The AOR radio is much higher end radio for conventional receiving. The396XT is just as specialized for its ability to do trunk tracking and digital. Neither one will decode encrypted transmissions.

For digital reception you can't go wrong with the 396XT

The aor8200 doesn't do the ctcss without a special adapter card and I dont think it does DCS at all. That alone makes it difficult to use as a scanner.
