I can't speak for Icom's digital radio software specifically, but their regular commercial radio software tends to be much, much cheaper than Motorola's stuff. Usually somewhere in the $50-$80ish range, depending on who you buy it from. Also, I don't think that they are nearly as picky as Motorola with their licensing agreement.

Speaking of pricing on Icom P25 radios, Icom recently advertised a trade in deal for purchase of P25 mobiles and portables at half price.

Is that offer still valid?

Since we're at six pages I'd like for people to stay on-topic. For further Icom P25 discussion please move to the Icom forum. Thanks.

P25 Repeaters Around I-95

I will be making a trip up North, to my old stomping grounds... CT, RI area.

I was wondering, I seen quite a few posts of repeaters along my route.

What repeaters work well around the I-95 Interstate?

I will be leaving the Jacksonville, Florida area and heading North.

I want to try and get them programmed up before I leave in a couple weeks.

thanks,

73, Pete

P25 UHF repeater in Toronto area

Hi, I have put a dual mode ham repeater in the Toronto area, frequency is 444.450 tx 449.450 rx, NAC 293, PL 103.5, call is VA3 BNI, currently located north of TO, on the air.

It is a 110 watt Quantar that I built using a Nuc chassis, replacing the 72 mhz receiver with a range 2 UHF receiver, digital SCB, and new range 2 exciter, total investment about 1200$, not too bad for a current enough 110 watt Quantar!

Enjoy!

Chris VE3 BNI.

I will try to add it to the frappr list.

But, can you put a tone CTCSS or DCS in a digital modulation, like DV?
I think it would be only an audio add-on, coz if not you would be encrypting the waves. Is it ilegal in US?
I saw a system to identify the station that's talking (that's used over DSTAR), but, can this system do like a tone?
I don't understand at the detail the CTCSS functionment.
I read some things but I have to read some more.
If the radio, when detects the CTCSS subaudible tone, opens the squelch, it would show the other co-channel users. Why I don't copy that if I use CTCSS?
My ask is "Canna have a system like CTCSS but over digital?"

73's.

APCO25 uses a Network Access Code, or NAC, to emulate CTCSS and DCS.
The repeater station ID's itself in Morse Code and can re-transmit a users "Soft ID" that can be programmed to transmit a users call sign.

Let me know if I answered your query.

Did you add the 145.33 Brunswick repeater ? It's on the Lanier bridge on 17 just east of 95 and it should carry a good ways north.

Jeff's 145.330 repeater is not a P25 repeater... its just Analog.

I was asking for P25 repeaters along I-95 for my trip.

Thanks anyway!
