If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have 2 APX 1500s with 02 heads , one is a VHF model and the other is 800mhz. The 800mhz control head buttons were not working therefore I decided to swap heads to see if the problem went away or it followed to the other radio . When I did that both screens lit up with “flash zap bootloader “ then the screens lit up but the buttons continued not to work so I put the heads back to the original radios BUT now the radios won’t power up anymore ….. any suggestions I can fix this issue ?

To add to MTS, please post the firmware versions of both the VHF and 800 APX bricks.

Did you leave the heads on when the boot loader appeared? This is normal if the firmware has a mismatch. The head will download the host firmware from the brick, it will then reset. Of course it is possible if the brick has really old firmware and the head new, it may not play nice.
Yes I left the heads on until the bootloader finished . Been trying to update the firmware but unable to cuz the radio won’t turn on . Do I just wait and keep trying ? Or should I unplug the head then re connect it ?

One issue we have run into when swapping O2 heads is to make sure the LCD did not come unplugged from the board. it will be a brown rectangle at the top of the head with the speaker to the left.

The heads will have to upgrade and downgrade respecfively to match the firmware on the brick. This will take quite some time.

I would also remove both heads and check to make sure both ends of the flex are seated properly on the head and the brick. Remove and plug them back in just to be sure.

I checked all the connections to make sure nothing was loose and everything seems proper . I did order a new flex ribbon cable that connects the brick to the head just in case it got damaged.
How would I be able to upgrade or downgrade the head firmware without being able to turn the radio on ?
