• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

The department I work for just switch out the mobile radios within some of the apparatus. Added a 6500 and 8500 to the trucks. We’ve noticed since replacing them that the receive audio has been garbage. Although the transmit audio is crystal clear. Originally we thought the issue may have been from the radio installation guys changing out the antenna connector (using the same antenna cord from the previous radios), but we also got a new assistant chef’s vehicle that has the same model radios, but were installed by a different company and he’s experiencing the same radio issues. The radios were all programmed at the same time from Motorola. The antennas for the 6500 are laird (same ones used with old mobiles) but we’ve never had issues with them. The trucks that didn't get upgraded mobiles are not having receive issues, so it’s not a bad reception area of town. Just looking to see if anyone has any ideas, thank you.

I'd like to know what radios did you migrate from and what area of the spectrum (V, U, 700/800) are you in?

We had icom’s in those two trucks before the switch. We still have icoms in 6 other trucks but those are not experiencing issues. We are UHF, and the radios that were added are a 6500 (UHF) and 8500 (U, V, 7/8)

If a company came and installed them, why don't you reach out to the company to come diagnose and fix this? I assume the company was paid for a full working install, if you got anything less then that, they should be contacted so they can fix it. These are public safety radios, not sure this is an issue for a hobby forum and not for nothing but you aren't being very helpful or descriptive with your details.

Narrowband/Wideband programming error in the codeplugs could be a possibility.
Radios are forced narrowband anyway regardless after the 2013 mandate , so moot point. Hard to believe an agency pays tens of thousands of dollars for equipment and has to post on RR because it doesn't work right, unreal. Doesn't sound like a very competent radio shop if you ask me.
