I own an apx all band vhf uhf and 800 gps antenna for portables radios. If I wanted to use this antenna with my sds100, what adapter would I need? Sma to something? Just toying with the idea.

thanks

I was just going to say it's a good way to break the connector on the scanner, but your comment is funnier.

But I personally wouldn't do it. It looks goofy and puts undue stress on the scanner SMA connector.

The adapter shown is the (physical) weak point… probably snap that before damaging the radio’s antenna connector. But then, anytime you stress the antenna connections (usually by dropping the scanner), you run the risk of damaging whatever you’ve got screwed onto the radio’s antenna connector, and the connector itself! I’ve used the adapter shown and experienced it breaking on a couple of occasions. On the upside, the connector shown is considered by some as cheap protection for the radio’s connector… better it breaks instead of damaging the radio’s antenna connector. That being said, I no longer use the adapter shown because I too think it looks goofy. The APX antenna (that’s the circular one?) also looks strange and while I own one, I only use it as an “icebreaker”, a conversation piece when I’m at events (military airshows, etc.) that are frequented by “like” scanner hobbyists. Others are more likely to strike up a conversation when they spot the unusual looking antenna.
