• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a 7500 in VHF/UHF1 with the preamp option enabled. From what I understand from the help files once I enable the main pre amp check box I then have to go into each personality and adjust another setting but I can not seem to find it. Am I missing something here?

The help files have hyperlinks built in and you can click on the link to take you to the setting:

Correct which is why I referenced the help files in my OP, when Pre-Amp is enabled under Radio Wide there is no RF AGC option on any conventional personalities. I didn't see any other forum posts about it so figured I would try to gain some insight here

This is what I see on a Conventional Personality, my CPS (R27) Help files actually do not have hyperlinks, so I am unable to click the RF AGC text in the help window. There is an advanced RF AGC option like in your picture but I can only see that if I was to click on a trunking personality which I do not utilize. Is it possible that my FW needs to be bumped up, I am at R15.

I just opened an R15 firmware codeplug in R28 CPS and the option is still there. Are you sure you've got the Preamp option?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you read the help files on Advanced RF AGC, you're really only changing that setting on channels with intermod issues.

Yes, I have W12 enabled. I had read about that in the advanced field, I had figured the pre amp function would bring in a few weaker signals from what I had read on the forums here but it appears it is just for fixing intermod.

Yes, it does bring in weaker signals. The AGC setting is if you experience intermod.

From my research the Pre-Amp was standard hardware on every XTL radio so I would guess the same for APX? Still not sure if the pre amp even works on mine as this 7500 replaced an XPR5550e and in some spots I am getting worse RX than I did before (antenna setup is unchanged). I figured it would do better than not worse and this radio was very recently autotuned with an aeroflex
