• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi All! I am just wondering if anyone has experience with the top display on their APX showing light scratches. Wondering if this is something that happens during daily use and if this is somewhat normal. Thank you!

None at all but I'm pretty careful with mine. I'm sure if you wore it on the belt for duty use and/or heavy outdoor usage then there might be a few scratches. I would say it's pretty normal wear.

I try to be pretty careful with it, but I have started to notice a few, very light scratches. Nothing crazy and nothing that affects me being able to see the display. I just didnt know if it was something that I did. Thank you for the input!

I am unfortunately very guilty of putting my keys on my antenna which in turn leads to scratches on my top display. But like any display it will usually end up being scratched by something

I was pretty sure it is just the result of normal, everyday use but wanted to see if anyone else had similar experience. I appreciate the responses!

If your APEX is a trunked radio you certainly shouldn't put your keys on the antenna as the radio still transmits to the system even though you aren't pushing the PTT

My APX is indeed a trunked radio, and thanks for that, I had no idea

Yeah, every radio that had a display on it, gets scratches on it from living life. It even happens when people buy cases/holsters that have those cheap vinyl windows that rub on it - then they haze the entire screen just from ambient dust/dirt being between the two surfaces...one of which is designed to protect the other. Kinda ironic. There are many options to prevent it, but not all surfaces / materials support them (like the gorilla glass covers, etc). Only the radios that were the charger-queens used to fare the best, but they all do it.

With many of the cheaper radio lines, I got quite adept at just replacing the screens in the cases (that allowed it), and moving on.

If you use it, it's gonna show wear.

The front display lens on the APX should be Gorilla glass or equivalent, certainly tempered glass even if it's not Gorilla brand. That's pretty tough stuff and is extremely resistant to scratching or hazing. The top display lens I believe is plastic like the XTS series display was, so a little bit of plastic polish should clean up light scratches or hazing.
