To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello everyone,

I have an APX8000 that I am trying to get setup for QCII.

Not sure if I am doing it right, any help would be great appreciate.

I setup the conventional system and personality for QCII A/B and put in the tones.

Setup a zone with the channel I will be monitoring for QCII and assigned the QCII personality to it.

Is there anything else i need to do? Also, I selected VMUT in the menu items for conventional but it did not show up, any ideas?

Appreciate the help everyone. Thanks

In your QCII personality, in the Non-Astro Call section, make sure you have Selective Call RX/TX set to Decode. Also set Unmute Type to OR if you want to monitor the channel in standby or AND if you want the radio to be silent until a call comes in. Here I'm guessing that you need QCII on receive only, rather than sending out pages from your portable.

Thanks for the reply Jim! Yes it is receive only, I will make some changes as indicated above. Any idea on the VMUT not populating on the menu items? Is the only way to silence the radio by using the "AND" setting for the unmute type?

Thanks!

Surprisingly, I haven't done much with QCII on an APX. I don't happen to have one at hand to try, but playing with the CPS, it looks like you need to disable Selective Call and turn on Call Alert instead. Below that, check In-Call User Alert Enable and VMUT should populate. If you switch channels, the radio will go into monitor mode and VMUT will disappear.

Now you've got me wondering. I'll have to grab a radio when I'm in the shop and see what exact settings are needed to make it work.

Sounds good Jim, please let me know what you find. If it needs to be the Call Alert or Selective Call. I appreciate the help!

I got the radio to alert by setting up the selective call option. It just gives a quick "2 beep" sequence and then resets itself. If I were to use the call alert settings would that give the "4 beeps" continuous alert until i reset? That's really what Im looking for, like when a radio gets a call alert on a trunking system.

Thanks

Last I knew, QCII doesn't work on trunked systems.

Right, I was referring to the page alert beeps the radio gets on a trunked system when it gets paged. I believe if I set up the selective call option with the QCII info, when the radio receives the alert I think it will beep the same way?
