Can I get a coupon code too??
I don't think the coupon codes are valid for pre-orders of pre-release software from what I read at Butel's site yesterday.
There is a coupon code I received when I just ordered the ARC8200V2 that runs on Win7 and it came with a special link for 15% off future software purchases. When I clicked that link, ARC536 was not listed as a choice because it is not officially released yet.
I also tried manually putting in a valid coupon code in a box I found for one of his applications but it would not accept it.
Maybe those that email Gommert will get a discount but I'm pretty sure his main site was pretty clear that discounts or coupon codes are not valid for pre-release purchases. Not sure why he made that decision as you are the one taking the chance that his pre-release software will never work the way he intended. So far, that is the case with ARC536. It's not Gommert's fault that ARC536 did not work yet as he intended. He pulled the beta from public download. He did it because some of the new serial commands are simply not reliable at this point or don't work at all. Hopefully Uniden will fix that so Gommert can release a version with all the features he has listed.
I still think those that pre-order should be able to use coupon codes though or get the 15% discount by emailing Gommert as he also has a no refund policy if I'm not mistaken.
I guess I'll never get to use the discount offer I received as I already own all the applications he offers that match what I own! ARC536 was the only one I did not have but I ended up paying full price for the Pro version and he does send you a link to get the latest beta release with no keys needed. Once he actually releases the software, he will send another email with the keys needed for whichever version you ordered.
I played with the beta and it seemed to do fine for working with my favorites but it had many problems with the logging feature. The hit counter would only advance on RID's or TG's that showed up as a question mark for example, some talkgroups or RID's would show up briefly for a very short period of maybe 50 milliseconds and then be duplicated in the log with a question mark or no info at all for the RID or TG fields. All this while the same user was still talking and I was getting perfect decode.
Sometimes, the log would triplicate the same conversation with one showing the correct TG and RID (if I had RID turned on) and then a few milliseconds later, I'd get another hit but with question marks in one or both of the RID and TG fields and then a third log showing no TG or RID but they always had the channel name correct.
I also saw the radio switch sites when the same user was talking but the ARC536 log would not show the new site. It would show a new log entry but use the last site the RID was seen on.
This was all on a P25 Phase I 800 Mhz system and a couple VHF P25 sites.
I've not tried logging any conventional non-trunked analog stuff yet.
The virtual control feature does show something that the scanners display cannot show, that is the P25 sites frequency being used for the current voice channel. Unfortunately, the logging feature of ARC536 does not log the frequency info. There is not even a log column for frequency info.
I hope this was just an oversight by Gommert and he will add in logging of the voice channel used as sometimes that is the only way you can tell what site you are on is by the actual frequency. And I think it is important to log the frequency for conventional systems as well. The scanner will actually display conventional analog frequencies on its display. Why Uniden choose to not show this info for P25 sites is a mystery as the info is there and there is pleny of room on the screen to display that info. At least on the 536HP model. I think they add more lines to the 436HP model so its screen should also have the space to show frequency info when sitting on a control channel or tuned to a voice channel on P25 systems.
My guess is that Gommert will add frequency info into the logging fields before he releases a full working version of the software.
The info is there as the ARC536 Virtual Control main window shows the frequency for everything but there is no frequency column in the logging part of the window.
I also hope Gommert can add a way into ARC536 so it can read ALL your favorites instead of just one at a time.
I like to compare some of my Favs that I have programmed as duplicates and being able to see the settings of any favorite would be a plus in my eyes. I don't know that he could code in writing more than one favorite back to the radio at a time but that would still be okay. The main thing I'd like to see is ARC536 being able to read all your favorites with a single click and then adding them all into the left column for viewing or editing.
Similar to how the ARCXT versions work now for the 15, 396 and 996 ike models.
