I'm sure there's something in the scanner that says if the numeric signal value is between A and B, show one bar; between B and C, show two bars; between C and D, show three bars, etc.

I just modified a favorites list in .89 build 10. When I downloaded it to the scanner using sentinel all of the rectangle locations reverted to circles. Anybody else having a problem with location settings changing?

I just purchased the ARC536 PRO from the web.

Downloaded and installed version 0.89-build 10 Beta Version from the e-mail I received.

Going to have some fun!

Will report my findings, hopefully after ordering a BCD436HP

:)

I'm thinking that if you make a modify a Favorites List using ARC536, you should download it to the scanner using ARC536. (Likewise if you change a Favorites List in Sentinel, you should download it to the scanner with Sentinel).

I'm kind of struggling to explain this simply, so bear with me. . .

FLs created/edited with Sentinel are stored in one place on your computer. FLs created/edited with ARC are stored in another. The FLs might have the same name, but they are not "identical twins" when it comes to the actual file.

Typically what I do to ensure my ARC and Sentinel are synchronized is this: After making my changes with ARC, I'll write the changes to the scanner. I'll then open Sentinel and read the scanner (I get a message window saying something like the file in the computer is different from what I'm reading, do I want to save what is being read - I say OK.)

Liken it to this: Let's say you make a change in a Favorites List by using the scanner keypad. So after doing so, what you have in the scanner is different than what you have stored on your computer with either ARC or Sentinel.

Hopefully I haven't confused you too badly with this.

My guess is the features is not implemented or is not behaving as expected.

I'll do some further testing of your suggestion after work and post my results here.

VM Type ?

Since a recent update, all of which are good, I see 'Sub" and "Log" show in the Type column.
What ism it and is there a way to change the preferences of the VM?

Thanks
Doug

During Write Data when overwriting an existing Favorites List, it would be helpful if you could populate the fields for FL QujickKey, Copy in Name and FL Number Tag.

Thanks for including everyone in the roll out.

ARC-536 coupon

Gommert:

I just sent you an email on instructions on how to use the discount coupon that I bought last November to use toward a preorder of the ARC 436/536 PRO software. I really want to try out the beta.

Butel has some great software and I can't wait to try it. Loved the ARC home patrol.

Thanks for any and all help

Can I get a coupon code too?? :p

Can I get a coupon code too?? :p

I don't think the coupon codes are valid for pre-orders of pre-release software from what I read at Butel's site yesterday.
There is a coupon code I received when I just ordered the ARC8200V2 that runs on Win7 and it came with a special link for 15% off future software purchases. When I clicked that link, ARC536 was not listed as a choice because it is not officially released yet.
I also tried manually putting in a valid coupon code in a box I found for one of his applications but it would not accept it.

Maybe those that email Gommert will get a discount but I'm pretty sure his main site was pretty clear that discounts or coupon codes are not valid for pre-release purchases. Not sure why he made that decision as you are the one taking the chance that his pre-release software will never work the way he intended. So far, that is the case with ARC536. It's not Gommert's fault that ARC536 did not work yet as he intended. He pulled the beta from public download. He did it because some of the new serial commands are simply not reliable at this point or don't work at all. Hopefully Uniden will fix that so Gommert can release a version with all the features he has listed.
I still think those that pre-order should be able to use coupon codes though or get the 15% discount by emailing Gommert as he also has a no refund policy if I'm not mistaken.
I guess I'll never get to use the discount offer I received as I already own all the applications he offers that match what I own! ARC536 was the only one I did not have but I ended up paying full price for the Pro version and he does send you a link to get the latest beta release with no keys needed. Once he actually releases the software, he will send another email with the keys needed for whichever version you ordered.

I played with the beta and it seemed to do fine for working with my favorites but it had many problems with the logging feature. The hit counter would only advance on RID's or TG's that showed up as a question mark for example, some talkgroups or RID's would show up briefly for a very short period of maybe 50 milliseconds and then be duplicated in the log with a question mark or no info at all for the RID or TG fields. All this while the same user was still talking and I was getting perfect decode.
Sometimes, the log would triplicate the same conversation with one showing the correct TG and RID (if I had RID turned on) and then a few milliseconds later, I'd get another hit but with question marks in one or both of the RID and TG fields and then a third log showing no TG or RID but they always had the channel name correct.
I also saw the radio switch sites when the same user was talking but the ARC536 log would not show the new site. It would show a new log entry but use the last site the RID was seen on.
This was all on a P25 Phase I 800 Mhz system and a couple VHF P25 sites.
I've not tried logging any conventional non-trunked analog stuff yet.
The virtual control feature does show something that the scanners display cannot show, that is the P25 sites frequency being used for the current voice channel. Unfortunately, the logging feature of ARC536 does not log the frequency info. There is not even a log column for frequency info.
I hope this was just an oversight by Gommert and he will add in logging of the voice channel used as sometimes that is the only way you can tell what site you are on is by the actual frequency. And I think it is important to log the frequency for conventional systems as well. The scanner will actually display conventional analog frequencies on its display. Why Uniden choose to not show this info for P25 sites is a mystery as the info is there and there is pleny of room on the screen to display that info. At least on the 536HP model. I think they add more lines to the 436HP model so its screen should also have the space to show frequency info when sitting on a control channel or tuned to a voice channel on P25 systems.
My guess is that Gommert will add frequency info into the logging fields before he releases a full working version of the software.
The info is there as the ARC536 Virtual Control main window shows the frequency for everything but there is no frequency column in the logging part of the window.

I also hope Gommert can add a way into ARC536 so it can read ALL your favorites instead of just one at a time.
I like to compare some of my Favs that I have programmed as duplicates and being able to see the settings of any favorite would be a plus in my eyes. I don't know that he could code in writing more than one favorite back to the radio at a time but that would still be okay. The main thing I'd like to see is ARC536 being able to read all your favorites with a single click and then adding them all into the left column for viewing or editing.
Similar to how the ARCXT versions work now for the 15, 396 and 996 ike models.

never had a problem with scanner switching modes, but when logging today I noticed that the scanner was beeping. when I started watching for what scanner was doing, it became clear that when it beeped it was scanning on, not waiting for when transmission was over. something you might want know. first time reporting, thank you for your efforts.

Kruser are you referring to build 10? The logger should work in build 10.

Gommert
Butel Software

Hey Gommert,

Yes, it is build 10 I'm using but seeing the logs being duplicated within a very short time of a voice channel going active.
And then the hit counter only adds to those logs the contain a ? mark for the TGID.

I did also encounter another snag I meant to mention, my 536HP is on COM27 but when I selected COM27 in the Virtual Control screen, it would not see the 536HP.
Same thing for trying to read favorites, ARC536 would not see the radio when it was on COM27.
I had to set that one down to COM2 in order to use ARC536 but COM2 is a port I need for older software that only gives you the original COM1 thru 4 choices.

I also figured out how to import all my favorites since my first message!
I was not looking at the Import menu and then the Batch option so that is working as it should.
I also noticed that when using the Virtual Control that the conventional analog channels frequency is logged in the Data column (I think). But that same column only logs talkgroups when monitoring a trunked system.
That's were I'd like to see a separate column just for frequency info especially on trunked systems.

Thanks! It is getting there!
