I have just purchased ARC396 , I have read the manual but some things are still not clear to me ....from what I can tell a "profile" is a "copy" of you scanner contents in its current state like a backup ...so to make a back up before I do anything I just read scanner & save as profile ? Also I have 2 systems that share many common groups & tgid's I used the browser to copy paste the groups & id's from sys 1 to sys 2 , clicked write selected system to scanner , but it wrote what was allready there it did not take my changes even though I am sure had saved them in the profile in the browser ? Anyway is there a ARC for dummies site that has step by steps for most common operations,..cause I fall into the dummy category when it comes to this...

Good luck with all of that. ARC doesn't make sense. Very poor piece of software, IMHO. You're not a "dummy" - it's just really a lousy program.

Butel group

Aslo you may want to join the butel arc396pro group it has and ask your questions there to the people who make the program.

Every system is stored in it's own file. A profile is an easy way to load 2 or more system files. When you read from the scanner and save a profile you saved a backup since the software first saves all the individual files and stores the filenames in the profile file.

When you upload data either first delete the system(s) you want to write or use the 'overwrite' option.

Who the heck are you to slam me? Butel sells software. They charge money for it. It doesn't work. And their support really lacks. Step off.

Butel Software

I don't understand why your saying the software does not work I have been using Arc396pro for over a year and before that I used Arc250pro and used this program for over 1 year and both these programs work and I'm not barking about the money I spent on these programs. There are some bugs in the programs that are being worked out by butel and customers like me and butel is taking care of these. I see another software developer has a few bugs in there programs too but I still see that people are still using these programs and were glade that someone was trying to make software programs, maybe you have heard of this software company, Microsoft, Windows-3, Windows-3.1, Windows-95, Windows-98, Windows-XP and they came out with a few other programs that have bugs in them too, I suppose you would say these program don't work and they are junk.
No the software is not perfect but it's nice to see people making these programs for our hobby and to make it a little easier to program the new breed of scanners coming out.

I'm someone who is tired of seeing you whine. Get over it.

And they also offer demo versions, unlike most developers. Try using it before purchasing.

Then why do you buy it...?

I've been using Butel products for years. Mine work.

In comparison to what? Uniden and their UASD?

Butel offers some of the BEST support in the software industry, let alone the scanner market. When are the other scanner software developers going to offer feature upgrades for every title they have ever released -- especially for scanner models that have been discontinued? When are they going to man their own user forums for each title and personally respond to every question?

Again, we know you don't like Butel products. You've made that ABUNDANTLY clear. But there's a time when it becomes annoying, and you've definitely reached it. Calm down and give it a rest.

Don't be condesending. Is this even in your worst nightmare worth $70? This isn't even beta worthy. I'm entitled to my opinion and Gommert is entitled to ignore it.

wjf, insulting of members for any reason will not be tolerated, post deleted. Also, if you don't have legitimate help for people with ARC questions, stay out of the thread. Quit hijacking threads with your Butel bashing. I'm leaving this open in case the O/P has further questions and any further off topic posts will be deleted. :)

I didn't insult anyone. I'm critical of a piece of commercial software.

Do you think everyone who has a problem with Windows is insulting Bill Gates?

You didn't insult wolter in that now deleted post above? Listen, of course you can have your opinion of the software, but it's when you hijack a thread is where the problem is. The O/P wasn't asking for peoples opinion of the software before buying it, he has it and needs help using it. Posting what you did serves no purpose other than to derail the thread from the O/P's original question (which is exactly what happened). I really don't think I'm asking to much here..If you have any further feel free to PM me.

I've used both Uniden's UASD and ARC396. ARC396 isn't perfect, and there's still plenty of room for improvements even if something isn't "broken" (need a free consultant/tester?) but IMHO, it's superior to the UASD by far.

I have to admit the Gommert is great with the support.I have to say its not the programming its the person who is trying to use it.Not to flame anyone with that comment but I had learned alot from Gommert and ARC433. I did not realise the mistakes I was making.
