Arc xt 396xt problems

I am programming a 396XT for the first time. i got all the right software and the right cable. However, when i go into the ARC software and click dowload from scanner it does not work. It says that no scanner has been found. I verified that i had it checked to the right port and everything. Scanner is on. USB plugged in. And nothing is happening. Please help

Did you install the drivers for the cable? That is assuming you are using a USB to serial adapter cable. Also, try using the "Auto Detect" feature in Communications Set Up to see if the software will find the scanner. In that same window, you will see a button labeled "Open Device Manager". Click on that and see what Comm Port the cable is connected to. That has to be correctly set in the software or the computer will not connect to the scanner.

You may also want to check that the scanner's port is turned on and that the baud rate matches the baud rate set in ARC-XT...

[Menu] -> [Settings] -> [Set Serial Port]
