Quick question on BuTel ARC536PRO software for the 436, 536, SDS-100 & SDS-200. The BuTel software is used to create, manage, edit, etc. the favorites list but not the scanner profile settings. Sentinel is used to manage the database and scanner profiles.

Is this correct? I am not interested in controlling the scanner from or to my PC.

I already own the BuTel software and have since it was introduced for the 536. I bought it years ago when I bought my then new to the market 536 just never really used it. Not interested in Proscan.

Thanks,

I just updated my programming. ARC536pro should save the profile files as well. The profile setting are just not all in one menu. The quick keys are a separate menu item. The software saved the profile (pfl) files and the (hpd) files. I am looking to see where to program the scan selection.

Thanks I am going to have to look and think as I have a 536 and SDS-100 that share Favorites list but not profiles.

I think "Profile" means one thing in ARC536 and something completely different in Sentinel.

In ARC, "Profile" is merely a collection of Favorites Lists, or HPD files.

In Sentinel there is a lot more information/data involved.

I see it now in arc536 the menu item for favorite list scan on and off is located in the upload to scanner menu. All of the same sentinel programming is there but it is dispersed in many different menu item. The only thing that sentinel adds is the firmware update tool.

And selecting Service Types, Location Settings, Search Stuff, Weather Settings, Tone Outs, Batch Quick Keys Status, Display Options and General Options like Priority Scan settings, etc. Such things I believe are only set in Sentinel, possibly ProScan (haven't explored that enough to be sure).

Sentinel also includes the ability to set quickkey status for departments and sites which ARC doesn't currently do.

What prompted the question is I run a 586 and a SDS-100. They use the same favorites list but the settings I choose in their respective Sentinel Profile files are different. if ARC586 only manipulates the favorites list and its attendant setting then it is easy to maintain both scanners. If it does manipulate the general profile settings the I need to know how to manage multiple scanners with the software.

Just do a File>Save As and name the current profile as SDS100. Then do another Save As for 586. Now you have a profile for each scanner and can have different profile settings and different Favorite lists for each scanner. You just do a File>Open and open the profile for the scanner you want to work on.

I will use ARC from time to time to "pretty up" my Favorites Lists.

I'm sure this is a cumbersome way, but after doing the work on the FLs in ARC, I'll then read the scanners using Sentinel and choose to overwrite the files on the computer with the FLs from the scanner.

An "ARC Profile" is only a collection of Favorites Lists. ARC will NOT change any general settings for the scanner.

A "Sentinel Profile" has a collection of Favorites Lists AND general settings for the scanner.

These two pieces of software do a real fine job of confusing folks with the same term (profile) but with different meanings. Of course ARC used the term "profile" long before Uniden did for their DMA scanners.

That’s what I was thinking the way the two pieces of software could be used. Thanks for the confirm.
