Has anyone ever tried to monitor any armored car businesses such as Dunbar or Brinks? Or do they just work off of a GPS computer system in the trucks?

I don't know about now, but one of the armored car companies in Dayton, OH when I lived there had radios in the 460 MHz area. They could easily be in the old business channels on UHF or on a commercial trunked system.

Odd question.

So. I have to ask... Why?
I mean, nothing interesting really happens with them. Not to accuse, but it sounds a little suspicious.

Just my 2cents

Well since I am a law enforcement officer I assure you that it is nothing suspicious. If it was that secure then I am sure they would use encryption like my agency does.

Thanks Richrowl! The next time I am in the Richmond area I will check that out. Maybe I can find some others around the state. Be careful, RobertJ might ask you why you have that frequency because it sounds suspicious...Ha!Ha!

Brinks has used 159.495 over the years for dispatching, but in all the time I monitored it, I only heard a little bit. Ditto for Federal Armored Express, which I think was 160.050.

I'm not sure if either of those are still active. I do know that the freq that Richard mentioned is used by the portable radio, and is much more interesting--not that you hear it all the time, but by the fact that if you do hear it, the guys are very close to you.

I really doubt that a criminal could do much by monitoring armored trucks. They're not being dispatched from place to place like police cars. They have schedules and routes, and the radios are probably as much for safety as anything else.

Even if you pick up the guy on the portable, his transmission was probably to alert the driver to cover him as he returns to the truck. Anyone attempting to pull something at that stage would just be putting himself in the crosshairs.

LEO? I think not... Loser

Welcome to the board. I caution you again insults against other board members, the mods and admin here don't tolerate it.

I think that if you go back and check dhmann's other posts, you'll see that he is associated with the law enforcement field.

Allen,
Thank you for your insight and I concur with the fact that a criminal could not do much by monitoring the radio traffic. As you stated, they have schedules and routes and are not being dispatched.
Thanks again,
David

BoxAlarm, that is correct, I am a Supervisory Special Agent for a Federal agency in the DC area. Thanks to you and loumaag for your comments and keeping this a professional forum which it has always been.

Thanks Dave, I appreciate the confirmation! I will have to see if the same holds true for the Fairfax and DC area.
